Starting Issues

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

thanks steve.. i actually had my old one tested and they said it was fine.. so i bought a new one just to be sure.. it acts the same as the old. I really dont think i have an loose grounds but checking ONCE again cant hurt anything.

If all the grounds check out ok; make sure to check all the positive connections too. Be careful tightening the main to the starter though. If you overdo it you can misalign the contacts inside.

What would I – beginner – do without this forum and all helpful information... [up]

Today I will go to garage with new hope! ;)

Will start with grounding check and then will try "hit/tap the start button" before holding it for starting my precious!

I had starting problems too.
I changed my battery, I checked with a multimeter if the Volts were O.K. and so they were.
I took the bike to a mechanic and he said that the NEW BATTERY was not charged properly from the seller.
So, we fully charged the new battery and it worked fine.
Sometimes, I had to put 2nd gear and move the bike back and front.

Today, no matter how, I realised that it is a grounding issue.
So I connected the negative pole of the battery straight to the starter and everything is o.k.

09 Uly had hard starting problems and ran like shit when I test rode it before purchasing. Dealer mechanic said it had a ton of carbon built up inside the motor causing the hard to crank symptom as well as running issues. Wish I knew how he cleaned it up or if anyone else knows? Also how to keep it clean without much expense or modifcation? After it was cleaned the bike starts effortlessly consistently in all weather, engine cold or hot, as well as runs much better. Nice to hear the motor just pop up when you hit the starter switch.

More than likely your tech did the TPS reset on your 2009 bike. Read up here and you will find it on the Forum. I my self have put the 08 plus TPS procedure on the Forum many times over the years. The under powered Stock 200CC/amps Battery is not enough. A 225 CC/ amps Battery.
The DEKA aftermarket Battery for Harley Davidson works well most times. I installed a 1.4 KW starter Works very well.Do NOT go larger than 1.4 kw.
Make sure to do your research for your bike. The 1.4 is very close to being too large for some models of XB bikes usually 08 plus engines especially. Just will fit.
Even then gives a grunt here and there. I just let up for a second and bump it again. Compression is high most times on the XB models and the Cylinders are almost Straight up.
Every once in a while you will touch the Start Button and the Bike will Fire right up. That means the Crank was in the just right position to easily spin the Engine over.Check out Drag Specialities or J and P and others for the Buells starters that will fit your bike. Do the Home work first. Jimi
