Stock Firebolt Bar Diameter

7/8 is the OD. I'm fairly certain that there are only 2 bar sizes in the motorcycle world - 7/8 and 1-1/8.

Ok thanks. I need to change the way my bar end mirrors mount and found some bar threaded inserts for dirt bikes but I think they are 5/8".

I think 3/4 is the inside diameter.

Whats up with your bar ends? Did you just mount them the way they came, or did you do the rubber trick?

Thanks Sandro I've seen that, might try that if I can't find anything else but threaded would be so much better. I might just weld in a piece of metal and then drill and tap it. IMO that's easier than all the hassle to make that split wedge thing work. It really wouldn't work on my mirrors anyway as I don't have a "nub" to cut a notch in to to keep it from spinning.

My mirrors are mounted "OK" currently, as in they are attached and not falling off and I can see out of them. But they move way too easily and I can't position them correctly. The mounting system it came with didn't work at all. I did the rubber trick which is better but I can't pull them out away from the grips at all and it's causing rubbing on the throttle. It's fine now but the throttle does not spring back on it's own power I have to do it manually. No problem now but I lose the purpose of the double cable on the throttle(safety issue).

I really just want to thread them on.

The welding idea sounds good. I assume the stock R bars are steel? If so, anyone with a MIG welder can weld something real quick. That will be the most solid mounting method you can have. My bars are aluminum so I would have had to find someone with a TIG and then had to deal with threads into aluminum, etc etc... Good luck!

I'm not sure if it's steel or aluminum. I think it's probably aluminum, actually. I have a MIG, but it's not set up for aluminum. One of my best friends has a TIG. Between our two machines we can pretty much weld anything. Just need to ride over there one day. I think that's my best bet.

On my bars hanging in that tree up north I just welded a nut inside the bar. I set it in a hair and tacked it in 3 spots basically. Had to grind the throttle side a bit and add a washer so the throttle wouldnt stick. The nut happened to be the same threads as the bolt that came with my cyclegear bar ends so no tapping new threads just a little Red locktite on that bolt and the things never budged. Now on the dirtbike bars I just have the ****** metal wedge and it sucks. Above 50 and my mirror gives up.
