Hey everyone!

I decided to get the Buell on a road trip with a couple of buddies. I'm currently 1,200 km from home in Calgary AB. Before the trip I spent nearly $1,000 to get the bike all serviced up, new tires and everything was great until yesterday. My belt snapped in the middle of a pretty isolated part of Vancouver Island. I managed to get it towed back a nearby town, but the closest HD dealer is at least 2.5 hours away. I have the extended service plan, but I was just told the belt is one of 1100 parts that isn't covered. I guess the $1,800 spent on that warranty doesn't do much good right now.

I have a 2007 XB12S. It had the Goodyear Hybrex belt. I could of sworn this belt was supposed to have a lifetime warranty when I bought it. I know the pre 07' apparently had a gates belt that had a 25,000 mileage warranty or something to that affect.

I have a local bike shop checking the compatibility of a sportster xl belt so maybe I can get on the road again. I heard those were compatible.....

Anyone that has info on the following would be great:
-can anyone confirm the lifetime warranty on the Goodyear belt? If so any documentation anywhere so I can confirm with my dealer back home
-anyone somehow get a belt replaced with the extended service plan? Any tips?
-can anyone confirm a compatible belt from an HD model?
-any other advice?

This is definitely a trip of a lifetime, but this is putting a big dent into my already modest travel budget. Plus I'm a long way from home.

Any input is definitely appreciated!

Cheers guys,

Jay

Sportster belt should be the same. otherwise it's a 14mm tooth pitch 128 tooth belt 1.125" wide

I believe the warranty only ever covered them to 20,000 miles under normal use.

Thanks for the info Wolfo! I have about 17,500 miles (28,000 km) on it. Not sure if that would be covered.

Thanks for all the sizing. Checking with a shop here that works on American Twins to see if they have anything that works.

Cheers

I know the Harley dealer in Victoria has the correct belt. Where on the island are you? I'm in Victoria.

Typically the mileage warranty will only last you 5 years, if it was the original belt the manufacturer probably won't cover it.

And the price of a new one is somewhere between 130 and 180 depending on what belt you get and where you get it from.

Hey Jason thanks for checking!
I'm up in Campbell River at the moment. The bike shop here, Milwaukee Twin ordered one from Trev Deeley in Vancouver. It'll be here tomorrow. Thanks for checking!

Looks like $288 for the belt, plus shipping, plus install.

I was hoping for some more cost effective options, but Im also holding up my two buddies for a couple days as well, so I may be back on the road tomorrow afternoon.

Wolfo- it was the original belt so I'm probably out of luck on the warranty side.

Thanks for the responses guys! At least it's a nice place to be stranded!
