STT - Things to look for?

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

Bone stock, I've ridden in the rain before, no problem. 70/30 in town riding vs highway. Made no modifications just set up suspension for my weight. Do wish the seat height was lower I'm only 5'8", however I'm moving alot more than stopped so no big deal.

NEW 07 sTT, purchased oct 09 with 12 miles on ODO. now has 3500 miles. No problems with mine at all. kinda forgot about the first maintenance and had it performed at 2200 miles by HD/Buell dealer (they were VERY nice - but they are also a race shop with HD drag bikes and even a rare Buell "Cup" bike from the single make series back in the early '00's).

I have not ridden in rain, but did about 50 miles of dirt/gravel roads one day and then road another 200 home after that - bike performed flawlessly.

the only real issue I've had (and thus learned my lesson) is NOT to start the bike, blip the throttle and then shut it off and not run it again for a few days. It definitely will cause the plugs to foul on the restart. Best advice is to turn it on and immediately ride it. Even in cold weather.

I would highly suggest to not just hop on a cold bike and ride it. The oil is still cold and hasn't had a chance to coat all the internals. In cold weather start the bike and give it a minute or two to warm up before driving it.

my rule of thumb
start a bike, zip your jacket, put helmet & gloves on & then ride. dressing up is enought time to warm up a bike.

I also own an aircooled porsche 911 - the accepted practice and widely noted amongst many aircooled engine experts (for porsches, at least) is NOT to allow these cars to idle to "warm" up. The accepted warm up is low revs/low shifting points for the first 15 min of driving.

and my apologies to 93fee...one minute warm up time should be sufficient (I agree with the comment he/she made).

I've found that if you don't let it warm up for a few minutes on the first crank up of the day it belches and almost throws you over the bars when you start to roll. This has happened on the 3 Buells i've owned.

I have a 2007 STT and i love it, love everiting about her. The only problem that she sufer its whit the oil cooler that had a leaking problem and the dealer replace it.
I am 270lb 6'3" and other than blacked out everiting I only adjust the suspencion to my weight!
Replace tires whit the sameones and replace the number plates whit passenger pegs!!!

I did'nt like the number plates when i picked up my 08 so i took them off , then i figured that's what makes it a TT so i put them back on with number 26 and some stripes. I love the way it looks now and think it really makes the bike. it's on page 30 of the upload your Buell pics.

Thank for all the replies here!

WallsXB, you're lucky to have an HD dealer that's really cool. I've been trying to figure out whether or not I'll be taking the number plates off and recently they're starting to grow on me. You're correct when you said that they really define the STT.

Edocolon, You are a big boy. I never get above 250lbs but I was still concerned that I'd have to change out the suspension for some "big guys" rated hardware. Since then I've seen many many large individuals like ourselves that ride stock suspended Buells with no problems. Thay all say that you just need to set it up properly and you're good.

Thanks again fellas I'm really loving this board and how cohesive and (mostly) harmonious you guys are.

I'll be checking out the pictures of your bikes when I'm not trying to read EVERYTHING I can on the bike.

Cheers

Levi

:edit: I called WALLSXB Wally. Fixed it.

Update:
I'm waiting for the shipper to get in contact with me.
The motorcycle should be here soon.

I've got the bike. It arrived today in an enclosed trailer. Pictures will be up soon.

Thanks Walls.

Here's a pic with the number plates off. I also included a pic of the front tire. The previous owner of this tire only used the sides and left the middle for me to wear out. How nice.

It's not a TT without the number plates . Just throw some numbers or stripes on them like i did on mine and they won't look as weird as they do bare.

I like the number plates too, and when it's running it's white plastics I'll have the plates on the bike.

I'll be putting flat black plastics on it though, and when I do, the number plates won't be on.

Now you've got me thinking. When I go to the black body work, should I get some flat black number plates too? It'd look pretty MadMax/Zombie-pocolypse but it would still be an STT in form.

I want as much as some of you to keep the STT form in tact. It has it's own identity in the model lineup and that's why we like it. When I put a touring seat and pegs on it for the wifey it'll stop looking like an STT right then. So while I have her on it, it'll kind of look like an SS. Ninety percent of the time it'll have the solo seat though. I trust that this will be enough to appease the Street-Tracker-Style-Provenance Bureau.

That's strange you mention that because i'm in the process of painting my # plates black. Currently they are white with blk stripes/# and they will be reversed , i thought that would blend better with the blk rails.

Alright cool. I'll check yours out when you're done if that's khosher with you.

This is shaping up to be awesome.
