Has anyone experienced a stumble between 1-2k RPM's while ridding their XB12R? I am looking into buying a 2008 that has a stumble, but not certain on the extent of what it might be. It does happen all the time, whether the bike is cold or warmed up completely. It'll nearly stall out when your going from 1-2k RPM's, but once your past 2k, the bike pulls hard like it should.

First guess is just a tune-up (owner said the plugs are about 2-years old), but am also wondering if it's more an issue with fuel map or maybe even injectors? Seems a bit odd it only stumbles between 1-2k. It did seem to idle a bit high also, 1100 RPM's roughly.

The bike is completely stock, with the exception of a K&N air filter. It has about 6300 miles. It was supposedly Harley Davidson maintained, but when I looked at it the oil was extremely dark, and seemed to be on the verge of clumping up. Might just be better off just to pass on it?

Thanks,
-Matt

it should idle about 1100, and you should really be riding above 2k. between 1 and 2k it is common to bog out

open up the exhaust and open up the intake to get more fresh air in and it should smoothen out. Worked for me. [up]

The K&N with stock ecm or no retune I would guess to be the issue. With more air you need more fuel.

But I think the off idle stumble was kinda common, I know my '09 did it from time to time till I swapped the stock ecm for an EBR.
Mostly just a crappy tune on stock ecm from the factory.

Seems a slight stumble is common. My 2005 xb9r has a more than common stumble similar to what you are describing. It is much worse when hot. I changed to the iridium NGK plugs, the 9's, which are one heat range colder, and it made a big difference. Also did a full tune up (regular NGK plugs, the 8's, drained fuel refilled with 93 octane, changed both oils to royal purple 20 50, replaced plug wires, checked static timing, replaced air filter, and did a tps rest, all with very little change). The new plugs made a big difference. I think adding fuel to the maps will completely resolve the issue, they are lean from factory to pass emissions.

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I'm driving under 2k RPM's, just when going through the gears. Specifically from a launch - starting out at 1k RPM's like normal, the bike feels like it's going to stall.

Yes - It's completely stock, except for the K&N. So it's still on the stock tune. Sounds like the consensus is it needs NGK plugs, and possibly a ECU tune to go with the air filter?

I'll post pictures if I end up buying it. It was set down, so I'm a bit hesitant that it has both some tuning issues, cosmetic issues. No frame damage I could see, just a bit on the chin fairing, the swing arm, and pegs.

for 2-3k I would get it, nothing a little TLC can't take care of

Unfortunately they are wanting $4k (Supposedly whats left on the loan - Banks holding the title until paid off). So I don't think I can get them much lower than that.

Wow definitely pass IMO. I bought 2005 xb9r with 7,000 miles that runs good, not perfect, but pretty good and was in good shape for $2,500. A few hundred dollars later and it's running even better :)

This sounds like my bike, the colder heat range NGK's helped a lot with that.

But he said it was laid down...and has a stumbling issue... I don't know, I've been seeing some 08's and newer that are mint go for that price range.

Mine has been down too, in the driveway.
Swapped the pegs n bar ends, was planning on doing that anyway.
With 2 wheels they tend to be a push over ya know... ;-)

look at all your available options and go with the bike you like for a reasonable price. Not that hard to do.

Obviously if you can find the same year in better condition for the same price then go for it. I dont think 4k for an 08 bike that needs new pegs and bar ends is bad at all.

Just do your due dilligence before you close any deals. [up]

my 09 did this when new changed to ngk plugs and that took care of it.4k is a good deal except for the dropped part

I guess it's all up to the person...I personally have never dropped or set down a bike and don't ever intend to, to me it's not hard to just not drop it lol. It would be hard for me buying a bike that has bee off it's tires....all I'm getting at is I think you can find a similar bike that hasn't been dropped for the same price...

Thanks everyone. I agree - if the bike had one problem or the other, it might not be a bad deal for $4k. Since it was laid down, and has some other issues with not running as smooth as it should. It's just not a 'good' bike. If the previous owner didn't fix the easy things like that, it makes me wonder what else might be wrong that I can't see or hear.
