Success with EcmSpy.. excellent tool

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

you're spot on with the tps reset and procedure. i always set to 5.1% but that's just me. what i then do is....and this is assuming the bike is ready to be run....i turn on ignition switch....red run switch to on....start bike...get some heat in the motor...and use my ear and the bikes' tach to establish curb idle. buell tachs are typically quite accurate and i like a warm motor idle speed of approx. 1000rpm and turn the screw accordingly. make sense?

1. EcmSpy V.1.12.26 is this a current version?
This is an older, unsupported version. Around June 2008, the developers decided to stop development on this original version, and by a year later I believe had officially discontinued that software and said that any distribution or hosting of it is prohibited.

The new version which replaced it is ECMSpy for Mono

2. TPS reset procedure reads as follows; Adjust the screw until throttle % drops to zero and a little bit further. Close the throttle with light pressure (some of you snap it?) I didn't because its not in the script functions tab - reset tps - confirm - back to overview wind idle screw to approx 4.6 to 5.1% done.
For a 2006 XB9R, the TPS degrees is 5.2 - 5.6, and the idle speed is 1050-1150 RPM at 320° F (160° C). You do need to be connected to the ECM to know the degrees and engine temperature.

das geilste ist, dass die alten versionen buggy sind und manchmal scheisse in das eeprom schreiben oder an falsche offsets.
auch egal, ist ja nicht mein ecm.

I'm glad it is working for you, and thanks for your words. ECMSpy for Mono is a great tool. Tunerpro RT is another software option; both ultimately help achieve the same tuning or diagnostics goals.

What I need to know now is which ECM type is in my 2006 Buell FireBolt XB9R.
The choices for me because it says 'RACE' on the ECM are as follows;

Buell Stock
Buell Pro Series

Factory 'Race' & EBR
Hacked factory 'Race'
Those choices on the Serial Port selection screen determine which protocol will be used to attempt communication with the ECM. If communication is successful, then ECMSpy will query the ECM Type, and the ECM Type is what determines the ECM's settings layout (regardless of race or stock). So if ECMSpy is connecting to your ECM, then you made the correct choice and ECMSpy has figured out the rest.

Most 'BUEGB231' ECMs were Buell Factory Race. There are also EBR Race ECMs. USA Buell Stock, for example, is 'BUEIB310'. If you have the ECM's part# or post a picture, we can probably confirm whether it's a Buell or EBR Race ECM. EBR ECMs usually have a handmade label, whereas the Buell ECMs have a more official barcode label. And some EBRs have both.

Most 'BUEGB231' ECMs were Buell Factory Race.

I just downloaded an old copy of the Ecmspy demo software referred to in another thread. I makes no mention of this "mono" version. I was able to fetch and copy my EPROMs info and I have the X topi tuning guide but it looks like it was written in 2008. I guess I need to get rid of the old software and figure out this mono thing.

I have to sort out how to get it connected given this error, apparently it wants me to do something with this information first.
When you purchase/donate to get the software, you get an eeprom database matching your ECM, which will get rid of that message.
