Hi,

I've been wondering and searching in forums for a while, but haven't got a clear view if there is anything like that at all.

I like XB Buells, I guess all of them, so there is no point to argue weather to get a Jap bike or Buell. But I'd like to use it regulary on slower and twistier tracks (used for supermotos etc). Is there any difference actually in the 4 possible bikes to choose? I have XB12S (2005) at the moment and working on my skills :)

But what does Firebolt differently? Is there more than lower position? Which engine to prefer 9 or 12?

Also if there are modifications that are suggested I'd be happy to know. If the reality is that my current bike is as suitable as Buells get it is also valuable info :)

differences between the 9 and 12 are most likely gearing. i have the 12ss and there is a slight difference in the rake angle. not sure if the bolts have a different angle or not, check the specs, this can make a difference in cornering.

i love my 12ss and can't wait to get it on a track, maybe if i tell the wife she can call it an accident to the insurance company and get double money if i die she'll give me the green light :)

Keep your bike it's good to go. XB R or S, 9 or 12 they have the same top speed.

If you got off your 12 and got on a 9 you'd be disappointed. The 9 does rev about 400-500 more RPM. They have different primary gearing (U.S. models).

But has anyone experience with both bikes on track? Bolt and Lightning and/or two types of engine? Is the seating position of bolt more suited for track?

There is also these lower models, do they have ground clearance problems? I have got the footpegs to touch the ground with regular S already so this might also be a minus.

actually the 9 made a better race bike. Both are good though and you need not worry about ground clearance. You should however take an extra belt with you because you WILL snap the belt. I've seen it happen top both other track Buells I've been on the track with.

Firebolt is better for the track.

@ the track. My 12 beat up my friends 9 EVERYWHERE. Both bikes are Firebolts and look identical except for the motor is a different stroke(9&12).

EDIT: If your really going to have a "track" Buell don't worry about that extra belt, you will have a chain final drive or you'll have 600s screamin past you.

Thanks everyone!

Still in my area, there are no decent tracks as the real tracks where bike contests are held.

We have smaller tracks used for supermoto and kart and so on with top end never more that 100 mph (evan this only on a few of them).

If this is the case I think the more torque that 12 produces should mean more acceleration speed and give some edge? At least I think so. And 9 should be possible to modify so it is as good as stock 12. And the Bolt is better for track, but my Lightning should be almost OK for the smaller tracks?
I hope I got it right :)

Also is there a steering damper used/needed for Buells?
