I'd definitely be looking for a 450 class bike then, or ktm 525 and husky 510. 450's to check out are the ktm 450(or 525) 04-07, husky 450smr(or 510smr) 08-09, kawasaki klx450r any year, yamaha wr450 any year, or honda crf450x 2005 and up. These would all be best suited for that sort of use.

I currently have my uly for sale/ trade. I'm trying to get a DRZ400SM. I know the DRZ isn't the best but I had a klx400r (green DRZ) before I bought my first Buell and have a ton of parts left over so it only makes sense. It'll probably ly end up with a stroker motor in it.

Good luck in your search.

DRZ is a weird little animal. You say it isn't the best, but you have to ask what you want in a bike.

It is not the fastest. But service intervals are lengthy.
It is not the lightest. But the engine is heavy duty and bulletproof.
It is an old design. Tried and tested design with great reliability.

Those are some reasons why I went DRZ at least. And I NEVER thought I would buy suzuki.

I have been looking at the DRZ also and it seems you can get a decent one for around 3k-4k. The upgrades for a DRZ don't seem to be expensive and easy to install. There seem to be 3 mods that will open the bike up and thats a 3x3 air box mod, full exhaust, and re-jet carb/ upgrade carb. Sure it won't be as powerful as the KTMs but at least it won't be as slow and still be "bulletproof". Heck, if you can get the bike at a good price and do the work mostly yourself, you could stay in or near budget.

Take a drz and put an fcr carb on it. You will be presently surprised. I love the reliability of the drz and it will get the job done 365 days of the year. You just can't replace the smile the throttle snap of a 450 puts on your face. I've ridden plenty of drz's stock and modded. They are great bikes, Just boring. They will be perfect for 75% of people. Honestly though if I lived in Florida I dont think a supermoto would be a choice for me because it will get boring really fast

Just picked up my 07 'drz with 2400 miles, MRD Exhaust, 3x3 done, Jet kit done professionally with paperwork, few Zeta dress up parts - $4,000. Pretty happy since I would have spent $500 on the MRD myself along with doing the jet kit. Felt good about the price.

I have a wr450F (yamaha) that I recently picked up. Street legal. But I run dirt tires so I can take that blue beast off road :)

It's a fun bike but the knobby tires really limit speed, 60 mph on concrete and she is wibbly wobbly!

Thanks everyone for the input, always great info here no matter the subject [up]

Honestly though if I lived in Florida I dont think a supermoto would be a choice for me because it will get boring really fast

I'm thinking the total opposite....

I'm bored with street riding (in FL that is) now. After going to the Dragon for the last 3 years plus trackdays I find that I hardly ride at all anymore unless doing one of the mentioned (track or dragon). I was thinking that a sumo would bring some excitement back to the road. The handling, the wheelies, the offroad abilities.... gotta be funner than riding a street bike in FL. I've put more miles on my bike the last 3 years in NC/TN (annual trip) and at the track than I have on Florida roads. Hoping a Sumo would change that.....

The drz's don't seem like they'd be enough for me. I think I'd fall in that 25% that need more. For that reason alone I haven't entertained the idea of getting one. I don't mind the higher maintenance if in return I have higher levels of fun. If I was looking for something to commute and play on that would be my first choice but I'm looking for a toy (more or less).

Any input in this?

The SM510R (gotta confess, I have no idea what a "Stream Leader" is [confused]) is a great bike, & I'd be all over it for that price if it checks-out in as good-shape as the seller claims...

I'd be all over that, make sure everything checks out and bring it home. They're good bikes, and thats a great price

buying and selling **** on craigslist sucks. i'm pretty sure i saw a nice husky 630 supermoto for sale on craigslist the other day here in florida.

if you're interested at all in a DRZ supermoto my friend is a salesman at a dealer and they have a low mileage (under 7000 if i recall) 2006 yellow with a yosh exhaust for $4500. thing looks awesome.

forget everything else, i'd jump on this: http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/mcy/4892144135.html

How about ducati supermoto?

I wouldn't call the Ducati hypermotard a real supermoto. It's a bike done up in the supermoto style in the same way the KTM 950/990 SMR is. If you're really wanting an SM, reliability wise, you'll be hard to beat a DRZ but it is a heavy and underpowered bike from the factory. Stick to your guns and keep an eye out for a good clean 510 or 690 SMC. Those would be the two I'd be looking out for if I were in the market. I had a Gas Gas 450SM and it was one of the most fun bikes I've ever owned. I really miss it some days.

Thanks for all the responses. Miami is a bit to far. I'm North of Orlando so thats a 9+ hour round trip. I think the sumo may get put on the back burner for now.
Spending money/buying new toys is suppose to be fun. This has been a stressful experience.

I'm leaning back towards the Daytona 675 now. It doesn't help that I can't make up my mind either but when buying used I feel I have to be picky too.

Thanks again fellas

I jhave a couple friends with 675's and while they like them both of them complain about the fuelm mileage. My one friend was a new easy rider and he said he couldn't get over 35 mpg. My other buddy rides a little harder and says he is usually in the high 20's. That seems really bad to me. The newbie friend has now been on my old xb9sx for a year and is much happier.
