Well, I'm very happy with my 1125cr. . Put about 100 miles on it now... can anyone explain why the tach needle lights up around 5k ? Looked in the Manuel and doesn't give reason or why.. just curious as to why or what was the thought behind the idea... If anyone know, please respond and thank you. ..

Well, not so true. I road yesterday for 5 hrs, plenty heated up, tach needle still light lights up around 5k rpm's.... just curious.

@Phlegm420: Not at 5k RPM. Redline is 10.5k

@Midnight: When the tach needle lights up at 5 RPM, are you also losing your speed indicator? When the IC loses the signal from the speed sensor it goes into a safe mode that is similar to cold operations and illuminates the tach needle at 5k RPM.

@Noobuel: Contrary to what you say is this http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/536949.html?1265735915 and this http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/609013.html?1292956887

Also here is what the manual says, "The tachometer (2) displays engine speed in revolutions per minute (RPMx1000). As the tachometer approaches the redline, the color of the needle changes from orange to red."

Pretty sure it is variable based on riding characteristics at the time.

Also my bike redlines at 11k.

lol, you're being pedantic. Notice how both threads you linked to also mentioned the tach lighting up at ~5k in cold mode and when the speed sensor is on its way out or dirty? If, as he says, the light comes on after it is already warned up, and at 5k versus normal redline, then something atypical is occurring. The most commonly observed abnormality is a failed/failing speed sensor, but he has ruled that out now as well. Time to dig deeper for a cause.

And your redline being 11k is another instance of you being pedant without divulging all the facts. Presumably that missing fact being that you installed an EBR ecu, or used a tuning tool to manually adjust it. Not a stock value, or one that should be assumed when troubleshooting from the internet.

So you agree that it is a shift indicator? That's all I was trying to get across. I'm not disagreeing with you about something being wrong with the light if it lights up at 5k under load. Also, yes I have the ebr ecm.

Ahh, friends... no need to be snippy.. I joined this site because I'm a proud Buell owner, proud Union tradesman that's supports a Finely , And only American made Super bike...Most my Harley friends disowned me for buying Buell.. All I'm asking of Anyone is their Personal experiences of What they're encountering. .. my case, cold or not..at about 5kish rpm, the tach needle lights up red... inquiries as to why ? No issues with the speedo nor sensor. ..yes, 10,500 rim redline. .. has Jardine rt-5 exhaust and EBR ECM. .( I INSTALLED ) the bike runs fine..shits n Gits.. just curious to tach light-up because that's where there isn't power band or significant notice to do something. ..This site has been so helpful , so far... I appreciate everyone's input. ..thanks.

Hhhhmmm, I have almost 20K on my CR and have never noticed this. I can't imagine why the needle would light up at 5k unless its something either a previous owner wired or as previously mentioned.

In after thought because we like to stay above 5k for the oil squirter to flow into the stator housing it could be just a visual clue that the previous owner wired. Which is a pretty smart idea. Honestly never noticed the color(s).

Thanks for the input. . This was a unmolested bike.. good to know about running above 5k due to oil squirter .. like I've post.. it's my first buell.. not my first bike.

Found out from EBR. .shift point indicator. It will light up at different rpm's depending on engine temp.. AND , when your close to REDLINE. Cool, it was driving me nuts. I knew there was something behind the reasoning. ..
