Termignoni Exhaust?

Whoa! Is that the titanium one?
Is that from your bike/friends bike, or something you found on the web?
It doesn't seem like all this can be caused by vibrations/bad welding, it looks like it was crashed or something. If it wasn't designed/made properly, the problem would be at the welds, or it would need repacking like some Jardine cans.

Ok, I want to retain or boost the LOW END power, retain the the chin spoiler, and have a dB killer handy.
If not the Termi, then what do you suggest?

I'm guessing that dyno chart has to be from an XB9 since it showed 75 hp stock. There are several systems out there that make a fair amount more for a lot less money. Add brackets and you can keep the chin spoiler. I've sent several over to europe, none have had a db killer/insert.

One of my riding crew runs a full Termi system on his 996; I can vouch for the high quality and amazing sound. Although it's hard to hear over the wind rush at 155 mph!

Here, until late 2012, 2-wheel and 3-wheel vehicles were exempt from MOT (technical inspection), with a new law we are required to pass techical inspection once every year, which tests emissions, noise levels, brake and suspension performance, frame integrity etc...
This means that I will have to remove the aftermarket exhaust and change it to the original muffler/can for the test, and after the test put it back on again, once every year.
It also means the cops will be pulling/stopping us more to check if we have passed MOT, and if something has changed since then [for example, the can (photos are taken during the inspection)], they will ask to produce the original papers that show that the can is homologated for road use in EU...
It's ****, I know, but that's how it is now...

I contacted the owner of the pipe in the photo I posted above to get some details for you Jezuz, so here's the story.

"I chose the Termi for it's quality, nice not to loud, not to quiet deep sound, the supossed only after market can compatible with the stock 08 XB12 ecm, retaining the ecm controlled butterfly valve for supossed low down torque.

It was OK for a while but after approximately 6000 kilometers the butterfly valve started rattling and by 10K it was louder than a duc's dry clutch, I tried shimming with washers n teflon etc to no avail.

At the 16000 kilometer mark while riding some twisties with mates I noticed my bike getting louder. Stopping for lunch I checked it out and witnessed a crack devoloping right where the rubber on the rear mount bracket had been rubbing.

I immediately ended my ride, wired it up and gingerly rode the 150 kilometer straightest route home.
With 5K to go, the Termi detached from the bracket back falling directly under the rear wheel, bucking the bike in the air and my backside off the seat while crapping myself.

On investigation, the rubber between the bracket and muffler had rubbed it slightly thinner causing a week area to allow a crack to follow. The titanium material of the muffler is VERY thin and VERY brittle.

I thought maybe a one off but my mate brought his same XB12 Termi with the same valve rattle around after repacking it and noticed the exact same problem starting, with a small crack visible.

If you must get a Termi, keep an eye on the rear clamp area and I would forget the valve (XB9 Termi) and map it to suit."

Interesting review stellio! Sounds like it was failure due to metal fatigue. The Termis are well made, but obviously not up to the vibes of an XB in the long run.
I have to admit that in over 20 years of riding, I don't think I have ridden anything that vibes quite like the XB, and that includes old British parallel twins & off-road thumpers!
After my first year of owning & maintaining an XB, I am still amazed at all the fasteners which require Loctite according to the manual. Even the wear pin on the foot peg?!

Thanks a lot Στέλιο, I must start looking elsewhere for a can then...

ditch 'em that just hinders getting another inch closer to the road
Ha, ya, a dual sport buddy of mine has a system of riding his bike into the ditch to shave off everything that's unnecessary. Perhaps on an XB, you should just let the superfluous stuff vibrate off instead!

i just noticed this. And either the person that installed that did it wrong or Termignoni added another mount to more recent models. There should be TWO rubber lined straps that support the rear of the muffler. Not only one like pictured.

I don't know who would be reading this thread in 2018, however I'm in Sydney Australia and have a Japanese imported 2010 XB 12 R with about 12000 km with the last Termi sold new in Australia, 2017. It came with the valve which I graft onto another header to muffler pipe that came with it. I reversed the two rubber mount SS strap because it looked like it was being supported just to far to the end / back of the muffler. So far so good. The sound is just perrrrrfect. The engine needs a second to warm up and sometimes I have to "pump" the throttle when its cold, just like the old days on my Ducati 900SD Darmah. When I and the machine are in the moment its a beautiful thing. I'll say the GPR steering stabilizer just takes the machine and my self to the next confidence level.
