So my XB was crated up on Thursday and is on its way to Germany! It will be about a month until it gets there and per the movers instructions I had to drain all fluids.
When it arrives its going to be very cold so no riding right away but what do I need to do/look over mechanically besides putting fluids back in?
Recommendations on winter storage things that should be done also?

You will love Germany and the Autobahn on your Buell.
I only had 1980's bike over there and had a blast. I would love to go back now with my 12R.

Enjoy and make sure you travel as much as you can. Don't just sit on base. There is a ton to see and do while your there and living there instead of just visiting for a week or 2 makes it even better.

When do you get there? There are a few must rides - get down to northren italy and ride the Stelvio pass, only ~4 hrs for you, (10 for me from Naples).Stelvio pass pictures
And try to take a spring ride through the swiss Alps.
These have been on my to-do list, but i dont think i'll make it... I leave in April and will probably sell the bike before i leave.

I just got back home from 6 months in Germany...man do I wish I had brought my Buell with me. There is some beautiful riding out there!

Ill probably ride on the Autobahn but wont be keeping up with anyone but just to say I did. But I definitely will travel with it as much as possible when the weather permits. Ill be there for at least three years, maybe more if we end up liking it and I can extend to stay. So I should have plenty of time to explore and ride. I have a buddy over there right now and said he's already met a bunch of buellers although he rides a Ninja. :D

I know of a few buellers between Ramstien and Heidleburg, but i havent been able to meet them... I was in contact with a guy to sell him an airbox cover, but that was about as far as it went.
The autobahn isnt very exciting... There are speed limits, but the cool part is that they are SMOOTH as SILK! Last time we were up there in the 4runner, we would cruise over 100mph, and it was awsome. Except the gas mileage....

It isn't going fast that matters. I know a Buell doesn't do more than 140 but it is the substained long distance at 100MPH that is fun. There were only sections of the autobahn that had a speed limit on it when I was there in the 80's. I was station in Hanau from 79-81 and Baumholder from 84-87. Learned to speak German and traveled a lot. My job there the second time I spent 6 months of the year TDY all over Germany. And now there are tons of countries you can go visit comapaired to what I could during the cold war.

Like I said before, don't stick yourself on base. Go out and visit the countryside and learn about the people. And when you have leave go to other countries and explore. Like I said I would love to be over there with my Buell for 3 years again. But I have already spent 6 years there so I would have a bucket list. I have done 100+ in a Full size Jeep Cherokee and a Chevy Van over there. Plus in a Porsche and a 1980's era Kawasaki. Blew the engine in my Triumph Spitfire one night and then blew the engine in my VW van on the way back from a ski trip in the Alps. I was only 18 the first time over there. So I learned to drink German beer and got spoiled.
Enjoy your stay and have fun. Make use of all the palces they have to use over there. There are tons of MWR sites with reduced rates.

Once your there send us tons of pictures and get some shots of the Buell with a castle in the back ground.

Dam! Vilseck! With Graf right out the back door. That only means LOTS of field time. I have a lot of time in Graf and Hoensfield. Spent 4 years in Germany as a Scout. Was stationed in Schwienfurt and Fulda back in the 90's. All I had back then was mu old mustang.

Scout here too! I heard there is quite a bit of field time there for us to participate in. But they just took my new unit off the deployment schedule and that goes out at least til 2014 or so. Might end up spending my entire tour there without a deployment which means lots of time to ride.[up]

Make sire you get out to Kreutzburg monastery. Back in the 90's it was one of the BEST beer in the world. Spent Many Thursday morning(SGT time Training) up on that hill. I miss being there. Scouts Out Bro!

I would love to do the nurbergring. I am a racer so that just seems like the most amazing thing. I have a frind over there who sadly is a car guy (gti nut) who is constantly raving about the stelvio pass being the greatest road ever. So live it up!

Nurbering is definitely on my list! It only cost a couple euro to ride/drive it, and its something I've always seen in racing and a must do especially if the opportunity is there so close!

Well we made it to Germany! Still waiting on my household goods shipment which holds my bike. But it is snowing out and very cold so I wont be riding for a while but just want to get it prepped so I can ride as soon as the weather gets better! Went on the Autobahn today in the car and was doing 140mph and still getting passed, so the ride on the Buell will most likely be in the right hand lane. Once I get it and prep it for summer I will keep updating!
