I dont Hunt much anymore, its just to expensive and puts to much pressure to shoot something. Kinda takes the enjoyment out of it.
This was in Alabama 2006 215 lbs 7 point.

TOG Outdoors

Right now im completely consumed with Mountain biking, so much so that Im thinking of selling the Buell, my Yamaha Rhino and Jeep so I can buy a nicer bike and a new Truck. I need something that can travel better than the Jeep.

the lake about 3mi away; good fishing, boating, camping. i see more deer on the way to work then i do when hunting lol

nice buck Gatorbuell. please tell how exactly is it to expensive. I know it can cost some time and money for guns ammo,& the licenses & gas to get there, I'm not rich either but i always find a way to hunt its a way of life to me and my family, I dont pay for a hunting lease or guides or any fancy stuff . I just hunt on Oklahoma Wildlife department Public hunting lands and some on corp of engineers lands. I never have had the money to hunt out of state , I'd rather use that money to buy new guns & gear instead, besides even though it would be fun to hunt out of state the deer all taste just as great no matter where there from.(I would pay for a trip to hunt North American Bison(buffalo)thats my dream hunt).
I also dont pay to have my deer butchered & processed ,I do that all my self. I think it's kinda crazy to give some one $60plus to wait a month or more to get your meat in your own freezer. but i can understand that some people may not have a place to hang it and cut it up or may not have time to do it , or worse a spouse that wont let them do it in the garage or whereever.
i dont always get something but you got to learn from that day out in the field and just really enjoy being out in nature . that can take the pressure off yourself and let yourself really enjoy just getting out and watching all the things and animals, think of it like a mini vacation of sorts. and if you need to shoot something kill a squirel the last day if you dont get something. if you shoot him in the head you can probably still salvage meat off him for a tasty appetizer ( and then just buy a steak on the way home). i did that once at the end of the day during bow season, but i didnt buy any steak i just just made him the main meal , baked squirrel with potatoes & fresh spinach. tastes great.

I live in Florida and the hunting here suck. I should say hunting on state land sucks. Its a lottery system where you have to buy your licenses first then you can put in for a hunt. The way the system is set up is you put in for archery or black power and gun hunts. You may or may not get a hunt during the drawing and the hunts you do get are only a few day to a week during the season. You can only scout the management area by foot 3 weeks before the season and you can not put up a stand until opening day of your hunt.
The hunting leases around here will run you around 2k and you will be told where on the lease you can or can not hunt according to how long you have been a member. That 2k does not include the 500 or so dollars the club expects you to spend on food plots, corn for the feeders and time spent on mandatory work days.

Out of state, well just put it this way, my buddy has $6000 tied up in his lease this year with fee and licenses in South Carolina. Its also a 6 hour drive so you just cant hunt it every weekend or after work. 3 years ago I dumped around 2k into a lease in central Georgia and a month before the season started our leased property was sold and our money was not refunded under terms of the lease.
So I just said **** it im done hunting.

Me and both of my brothers go snowmobiling every year. Its the only motorsport that keeps me from missing the bike completely during the winter. Two years ago we went to Tug Hill in NY, have been to Michigan before, and even Canada once. Cant wait to go back to Canada and get some DEEP snow though.

Gatorbuell that does suck , it sounds like florida sucks to hunt in unless your rich or lucky, they need to rethink and redesign their hunting systems and land and wildlife management, . or is there just not enough land(public hunting land) or not a big enough deer or other game population to let EVERYONE with a license hunt them??
do they not buy new lands for hunting or for conservation, with the money they get from licenses and taxes on hunting/fishing gear.(according to florida hunting regs guidebook they have bought some new lands).. thats what oklahoma does they buy new lands each year to add to what we alreay have for small & big game hunting and some that is bought especially for waterfowl hunting and fishing. they also have public hunting in the timber company lands in southeast OK.

a lottery system to hunt doesn't seem and definetly doesn't sound very fair to the hunters , it sounds like only a select few get to hunt , leaving out alot of people without the chance to hunt each year and not being able to put some of gods best meat on their table for their family. not to mention the HUGE lost opportunity to get the kids out in the woods to teach them the enjoyment and love of hunting, & nature.
in turn that WILL CAUSE a huge lose of future hunters and conservationist,( a lose of hunters that feel like you and hardly get a chance to hunt or kill a deer or something maybe thinking of giving it up or just not hunting as much because of it) then that means a huge lose of revenue for florida from the lose of future money from the decline of license sells in the future. sounds like its time to ELECT more Pro-hunters to your states' senate and congress and governer and any political positions.
I am very amazed at the cheap prices of most of floridas hunting licenses and permits, compared to OK and other states.
Florida Hunting Regs
just read this from the florida regs....:: Florida’s quota program prevents overcrowding and controls the harvest of game on wildlife management areas thus providing hunters with quality hunting experiences. Quotas (maximum number of hunters permitted on WMAs) are based on an area’s size, habitat, game populations and rules. Hunters wanting to use WMAs during quota periods must submit the appropriate quota permit application. Most quota permits are issued by random drawing. Quota permits are issued free; however unless exempt, all applicants must have a valid management area permit or license that includes it when submitting their quota permit application. and also this good news for the seniors and kids,...Residents age 65 or older; residents with Disabled Person Hunt-ing and Fishing Certificate; residents in the U.S. Armed Services stationed out of state and home on leave for 30 days or less; and children under age 16 are exempt and not required to have quota permits to participate in many hunts

so it would seem to be that there is alot of hunters thatts great , BUT there is just NOT ENOUGH LAND for all of them NOT GOOD, that really does suck.

I do understand why they have the system in place but giving you a 3 or 4 day archery hunt is just not enough time. You know being a hunter that you can scout all summer but when the acorns drop and the season changes to fall the deer change their habits. It just does not give you enough time to move your stand and still be successful. Then the fact that if your sitting in a area that some ******* sat the weekend before and spooked all the deer then your screwed. Or you pull a quota and its a full moon and clear skies or you get a tropical storm (happened to me 3 years ago) or hurricane your hunt is done. Even if you get a quota for archery and gun your only looking at 8 days of hunting for the year. On top of it all if you do get lucky and shoot a buck your only looking at a 120 lbs deer (not dressed).
I still get outdoors but hunting in this state is just to complicated and aggravating. There are no more quite places left is this state. I do miss it though and hopefully when my job security gets better I can get on a lease in Georgia.

well Deer season is almost over here, only have until Jan.15 to get some more with the bow if I get a chance to go. it was was a pretty great season for me even though I missed a doe the last day of MuzzleLoader season, just as i sat down she walked over the big dirt hill/mound about 15 feet from me on my right, she snorted & stomped at me as she continued to walk straight in front of me. so i couldnt move any or she would run off. until she got to where she was only about 7-8 feet right in front of me, then finally she looked away and started to move my gun up , then my brother shot a doe from where he was about 100yards away. she heard the shot but just continued to look at me, cause she barely moved, for another 30seconds she stared at me then finally she decided that I was just not suposed to be there and maybe a threat to her, as she turned & ran fast away, i decided to to take the shot, luckily I only hit a tree and didnt wound it , i know that I really shouldn't have shot at it. but most of us have been there last day last hour, & a deer running right to cover.
but it got better for gun season. I got a very nice 78lb doe at 8:35 AM the first morning. And on the last day about 5pm I had a nice size 3 point Buck walk up towards me and he gave me a perfect shot to take him down, got him about 5-10mins before the sunset(with about 30mins left to hunt that day), but I had to drag him out down the hill in the dark after I gutted(field dressed) him out. But damn it was(and is always) WORTH IT. made some of the BEST steaks from the doe the other day. now I need to make some deer jerky , so I can have some great jerky while I'm out Duck hunting this winter. thinking about getting some ducks this sunday, I sure hope the skys are full of those beautifull Black CLOUDS of ducks and that we have some fly down to us & our decoys.

is Anyone fishing or hunting here lately??

good luck & Great Hunting & Fishing

Being from NC i can understand Gators decision. My Parents for some fu#*#ng reason moved to Florida.I was in Japan when that happened we had a small Ranch w/ Horses, cattle & so on. The Deer/ Elk in the area are Large/& Tastey. Fla. Fishing is great but hunting is not what i expected. I make my own loads/bullets for hunting so that helps w/ cost. I go back up home now and hunt up there. And a Hunting we will go! Be safe. Remember ONE SHOT- one Kill, Bow or Gun .

finally spring is here and some good fishing is ahead of us Buellers, and yes I know some of you do some winter and Ice fishing too, if so post your winter fishing trips & what you caught and any of your fish you catch this spring, summer and this fall.

I think tommorrow I will go fishing (and maybe short hike too). Because I I have rode my Buell twice this year so far and haven't been able to go fishing yet and it's kinda driving me nuts not being able to do either of them and maybe it will kill this cabin fever.
