Hi, over the past few weeks my bike has been setting the CEL. When I checked on ECMSPY, the error code was low battery volts. I checked the battery and it was reading 12 volt.

When riding to work today the CEL came on for a really long time, when I got on the bike to ride home, it was in the whole time. I got about 15km down the road and the dash dropped out completely (no tach, speedo or ODO). Then she died completely.

I ended up waiting for over an hour to get towed. When I pulled over I tried to start her again, but nothing.

I checked the voltage again when I got home and I was evading 12v again. Does not look like the battery, it only has 5000kms on it.

I'm at a loss, but from what I have read, it looks like it could be the stator. Also, if I have a DDFI3 ECM, do I need an 08 stator? My bike is an 07.

Appreciate any help.

If the stator's in question, test the resistance across the pins & ground in the connector under the C/S cover. If it reads 0 ohms, your stator is shot. Next, you'll check the output voltage which should be about 50v. Please double check with the manual for precise procedure & specs.

I'm wondering if it isn't actually your VR that's problem(?).

Im leaning toward the VR too, if you can charge the bike and start it you can check both. go cytocis explained the vr. If you unplug the vr and stator you can use a probe and test the AC voltage the stator is putting out

Also check the #77 connector under the drive pulley cover.....notorious issues there. I would check/clean/repair and pack with dielectric grease before spending money. This is 'free'.

I had the same thing happen to me, and it was the VR that had gone bad. I just bought the bike and HD did the trouble shooting.

But test as suggested to confirm, there are trouble shooting test per the manual.

cheers!

I have had a look at the bike after charging the battery. The stator is putting out anywhere from 25 to 60 volts AC and the voltage regulator is only putting out 4volts. I'm guessing this has to be the problem.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks for the direction guys. It was the VR that was the issue. I have got the part on and all back together, but my bike is running like crap.

I have done a TPS reset, but she keeps spluttering and stalling. Prior to the VR going, she was perfect on a cold start. Could something have happened when the battery ran flat. Fouled spark plugs etc? I'm at a loss... :( took her for a ride, no CEL and stalled twice at stop sign. Is running good when revving.

If I was to log a tuner pro session could someone look at it?
