Thought on patching tires?

go ask your favorite shop for yourself.

Ya this sounds like an order to me... your ridicules.
Sounds like your trying to cause drama. In all of my posts i have maintained that your opinion is a personal choice that I encourage you to maintain if it makes you feel better. Just don't spread conjecture as fact was all i ever asked. Keep starting drama if you like...

I am not ridiculous, nor am I trying to start drama. I am just defending my advice because you feel the need to quot my posts and tell me that I am wrong. The real comical part is the fact that the OP has already purchased a new tire. I would have never gotten into this discussion with you if you hadn't felt the need to call out what I personally had to say even though there were plenty of other people on here who gave the same advice. You sir started this and now are mad at me for defending my personal advice. Which once again is what the OP was asking for. I am sure you are noticing a pattern in my responses by now. I responded to the OP in a manner that he asked for. You felt the need to tell everyone else that they were wrong.

Crawfo, I only told you were wrong once, and I never mentioned that your opinion to never plug a tire was wrong. I have said it a few times... run what makes you feel better. I simply told you the real reason your favorite shop wont plug a tire when you were guessing as to why. Then when you insisted on revisiting it and got upset when I nicely told you the real reason... That is when I came out and said you were wrong. Then I challenged you to go check with them to find out for yourself, but you would rather start crap with me.

And I don't care what anybody's opinion is as long as its stated as opinion, and not fact. This is the only thing I have maintained from the beginning of all of this.

Congrats to the op, for buying a new tire. How much for your old one I will plug that puppy and ride the be-Jesus out of it!!!

FOR ANYONE ON HERE WHO GETS A NAIL IN YOUR TIRE ON A 50% OR BETTER TRED TIRE I WILL OFFER THE PRICE OF SHIPPING PLUS $1 FOR THE TIRE

AS A BONUS... ALL THE PIC'S OR VIDS OF ME ENJOYING YOUR LOSS TOSSED IN FOR FREE

Just trying to keep the comments straight. The 3 other tire comment was mine. Not the truck vid. What other theory of mine is wrong? I'm pretty sure the gist of all my comments were that riding a streetbike on a plugged tire (plugged right or wrong)is a BAD idea. I can stand by that.
My point was that when you have 4 tires it is no excuse to not pay attention to proper maintenance.

Hey Junkbone sorry to leave you out of this, so here we go.
That theory comment was tossed in there in the speed of the response, didn't much pay attention to who mentioned it. My mistake. What other theories you got? I'll give it my best to sort em out for ya[up]:) In jest of course...
Ok here is your chance. Why is it a bad idea to run a plugged tire in your opinion...

Here is food for thought, I bet nobody even gave a thought to how the tire made it home with out coming apart from the time you got the object in the tire till the time you discovered it. Hmmmmmmmm? Something to think about. I'm sure some of you discovered it fairly quickly but I bet alot of you have rode very hard on a tire with an object in it before you discovered it. So why is there no crash stories from a tire coming apart? Makes me wonder?

I know this may seem condescending and frankly Dick-ish; and it is, but only because I had to revisit it soooo many times and its getting old...

I don't know why people think their bike is some sort of porcelain doll that is sooooo fragile.

So far here is a list of things I have learned from Joining this forum:
1. Change your wheel B's at every tire change.
2. Never run your gas down to the low fuel light.
3. Never wash your bike with water.
4. Blown fork seals are from doing wheelies.
5. Taking off your belt guards, shortens belt life
6. And finally is if you plug a tire Properly, it is bad, no matter what the manufacturer states.

Ok, first, I can admit that it can be safe to run a "properly" pluged AND patched tire. The problem I have is that not in all cases will you know for sure if it was done right ( tire removed from rim, plugged and patched from the inside)or even if you do it yourself will you know if the repair is failing. If the repair ever fails it can lead to rapid pressure loss (bad) or even tread seperation (worse). So I'll say again, it is for piece of mind that you pay for when replacing the tire. To me, it's worth the 2 bills to not have to think about it.

Very good points, even the manufactures state that patched plugged tires should not be pushed to full capacity. So yes I can agree your opinion is not unfounded.

But....
Something for you to think of is most of us run Z-rated tires, there is a few technical definitions around this rating, but lets say it can withstand 186 mph at full load rating and at maximum tire inflation. So what all that means is.
1. maximum speed of an unmodified XB is 135, and unless your on a track speeds above 80 for a sustained period of time is unrealistic. Not that nobody does it... just not sustained for long. That is a considerable difference from top speed.

2. Load rating... my tires for instance have 800lbs rear 500lbs front max load rating. That is a combined 1300lbs im positive we are all well under that.

3. Max pressure. Mine is 42 psi cold. Again well under, as I bet all of us here are.

So my point is; when properly done, (and as previously discussed) a shop that does patch tires, will ensure its done properly for liability reasons. We all use our tires well under capacity to begin with.

This is what i have behind my opinion.

And at the end of the day, after alllllll this reasoning and debate and shared opinion. A perfectly defect free tire can blow out. From road debris or an unseen defect in the tire. The unseen defect in the tire thing is ultra rare as well because almost all tires made now are x-rayed by super robots. Again... liability reasons behind that too.

None of what I said is perfectly exact with the numbers and such, but its damn close so don't bother picking apart my numbers. Any ways that's my take on, Anyone else care to weigh in?

, and unless your on a track speeds above 80 for a sustained period of time is unrealistic.
one of my early sat rides is 72 miles oneway hills and long curves no traffic bike stays above 110 the whole time.theres quite a few of us on here that ride like this.

That's still considerably below 186, below 1300 lbs and under 42 psi cold. and i have done rides like that on plugged tires also....

What i was stating was to cover the the majority, not the minority of riders here.

Also I also maintain to do what makes you feel better about your ride
