As long as you're not going all out or fluxuating a lot then that should help out a bit. sounds to me like you've got some breathing problems with your bike.

it seems to be running rich pretty bad, when i get up to around 4k and pull in the clutch is backfires a little, when i really give it hell it boggs down some.

after two 30 minute rides the bike still isnt running right. It feels like its running rich but I dont want o lean it out too much and run it hot... if the bike starts running hot will my check engine light come on?

Recalibrate ECM:
1) Warm-up engine, at least ten minutes/ten miles.
2) Then, run engine at steady rpm @ 3000 to 4000 rpm.
3) Tune/cruise at selected steady rpm for at least ten minutes, twice that's better.

After (3), motorcycle has self-adjusted as possible for environment, including its owner's tweaks & mods.

During (3), ECM is Learning Closed Loop range. Air Fuel Value is adjusted.
Adjustment is applied to ECM fuel maps during Closed Loop engine rpms.

Yeah, that's what we refer to as a "Learn-in" ride, same as a Closed Loop ride: 1500-3500rpm @ 40-60mph
