YouTube noise diagnoses always suck to do but....it sounds like normal lifter noises. What brand oil did you put in it.
Redline/moble one oil makes more valve train noise then amsoil.

I use mobil 1 20w50.
I think I need to try ams next time..
Is it more expensive than mobil 1?

No he just knows nothing for himself so he just suggests google every time

(Just kidding oh9, :D)

Lol seriously why would you ask a person on here which oil is more expensive?

Its not that hard to look up prices and not have someone else do it for you.

Bout 11 bucks for Amsoil 20W50. It's got what your motor craves! Healthy dose of Vitamin Z with every stroke!

I notice some chatter now and again with it though, completely normal. Wear earplugs or rev it higher if it bothers you.

My '05 XB9 does the the same...sounds like pretty standard lifter noise to me. A buddy's of mine, '09 XB12 makes the same noise, but not nearly as loud, where mine is pretty pronounced at an idle. I run Redline oil in mine I may try some Royal Purple Max-Cycle next go round. I am not terribly concerned about it because as i rev it, it smooths out as opposed to a "ticking" lifter, where as you rev and it get more pronounced with rpms..."TICK< TICK< TICK<TICK!!" if that makes sense. Buells tend to have some bottom end noise due to the nature of the design.

I'd gotten pretty used to the geardriven sound on the xb9 being pretty pronounced especially with mobile1. When I brought the 12scg home it wasn't nearly as bad I'm thinking I justcant hear it cuz how screechy and wheezy the jardine that came on it is. The fella I got it from had said he used amsoil every time. I tried 20w50 Lucas once in the 9 and it seemed to quiet down some but I noticed the bike ran a bit hot so I went to mobile but I'm gonna throw some amsoil in the 9 c what happens.

I previously posted that mine either has developed a tick or I just started noticing it. Like Melvster, the tick is only noticeable at idle and then again, maybe only to myself and anyone else familiar with our engine's sounds. I just changed the oil this weekend and it didn't make any difference. Because I didn't plan ahead and mail order one of the more popular choices, I bought full synthetic Castrol 20W-50, which was proudly labelled "recommended by Harley-Davidson" or something to that effect. I really don't think that was a bad choice but next time I will plan ahead and choose Amsoil or something more popular. Another thought (based on my experience with cars): is it possible that a small header/exhaust leak could be responsible? I don't see any evidence of one, but who knows.

Im not too familiar with these engines but Ticks generally means valves. I just recently bought and sold an r6 that ticked like a clock. Tore it down re-adjusted the valves and problem solved. Also low viscosity oil will also cause ticking. Some engine noise is normal though. After owning relatively quiet i4's my whole life ive had used to the noise my Buell makes. Compared to most engines I've come to assume Buell engines are considerably louder. And more fun lol

Sigh [smirk]

Went through all this when I had my xb. These are NOISY motors. I can't recall how many times I took it to my Buell Guy and said "does this sound normal" tictictictictic There are some pretty big parts slinging around inside there.

Finally he told me to stop coming around and asking anymore.."if its running good, don't worry about it" is what he'd tell me.

Big twins= Big valve train noise
Once you start looking for it, itll drive you crazy.

Thought it'd be a little better/quieter when i moved on to an 1125 but its really just as bad imo.

Unless its excessive then I wouldnt worry too much.. when you're listening to the motor and slowing increase revs is it clearing up or getting worse?

Both my XB9SX and my 1125R tick. Not a problem, It's just your engine talking to you.

Now when you start to actually feel those "ticks" and they don't go away at higher RPMs..... that is a problem.

Mine goes away with higher revs. I guess I just didn't notice it before. I don't ride it as often as the Ninja... Maybe she's just mad at me. At least I have peace of mind now. Hope the same for the other worriers!
