IYAOYAS! Sweet name. Marine Ordie here

And that black Lightning with the 240 reminds me of the bat bike. Automatic coolness.

Hello guys. I have a Buell XB 12 Scg 2009 and I'd like to install rear wheel with 240 mm tire. Please let me know what is the best 240 mm rear wheel kit for my Buell I can find? I have read all this topic and a couple other topics about this issue, and as I understand this kit from fat300 website has some problems - the bolts in the rear sprocket can be broken and the chain can interact with the rear tire. So I am looking for the best technical solution at the moment.

Thanks.

I've ordered a used rear rim for Buell XB and I am going to order rim widening. Is there any company in Seattle area who can do motorcycle rim widening?

TPEHAK send me a message. Im in the PNW and i join the Seattle chapter. I have the 240 tire kit and i can help you with all questions.

Hello everyone. Please let me know If you know the optimal offset for the front sprocket for 240 mm rear wheel + chain conversion. I am going to use 520 chain (Sprocket thickness for 520 chain is 0.227" ).
Please take a look on the standard transmission sprockets with offset:

It looks like all these sprockets are for 530 chain (Sprocket thickness 0.343") so they will not work with 520 chain. If you know where I can find 21 tooth sprocket with offset for 520 chain please let me know.

Amazon shows offset sprocket only for 530 chain size like this

EBay shows offset sprockets without chain size information, so I am scary that all these sprockets have 530 size like these

Today I was taking measures. Gap between the original rear wheel (Pirelli Diablo) 182 mm wide and the swing arm of the Buell 2009 XB12Scg consists about 53 mm. It means that after installation 240 mm wheel I will have about 24 mm gap. Width of the chain EK Chain 520 MVXZ Quadra X-Ring Chain 120 Links which I've already got is 21,6 mm. So there is almost no gap between the chain and the swing arm with 240 rear wheel.

What do you think?

I think you should be fine with it, if you have measured it with a full tire.

I've had a ktm 530 EXC and when I changed supermoto wheels on it I had 0 mm gap. Or probably more like -2 mm gap because the chains ate the tyres edge a bit. Had no problem with it, except that little rubber loss on back wheels chain side! So I would try to get the chain as near the tyre as possible.

Haveto say, I did had some problems related to chains though! I was cruising middle of nowhere on a snakey road here in Finnland and middle of a corner passing some car my chains exploded. Will never ever neglect chains maintenance again! They where dry as a desert and rattled like a rattlesnake! And when I changed the new chains on the other day on it, I magically have had slipperclutch on it... Chains had hit the clutch slave cylinder and it didn't cuite release the clutch back.

Thank god on a Buell there is a million wires and connectors cushing chains impact! ;)

I am going to send the wheel to the Kosman. The rim will be converter from 17" diameter and 5,5" width to 18" diameter and 8,5" width. The wheel will be widened symmetrical. I am going to use Pirelli Diablo Custom 240 Radial Rear Tire - 240/40ZR-18. Is it necessary to remove outside welding line after widening? I'd like to keep visible welding line if it does not look ugly.

Today my rear rim should be in the Kosman Specialties, here is my weldup form with sizes. I bought a used rear rim for this purpose.

So I am waiting a phone call from them. In the Kosman web page they say: "As soon as we receive your wheel, we will inspect it and then call you to confirm the sizing and to make arrangements for a 50% deposit over the phone." How do they do the arrangements and how I can pay for the job?

i had to notch about 5-7mm from the inside rear of my swing arm to allow the chain and sprocket nuts to clear the swingarm on my conversion...

About 500$ if I remember. I am waiting a call from Kosman. I am going to keep welding line without grind off, I hope it will look accurate. I hope Kosman can cover my rim by "hero blue" paint.

I had a 1997 S1 Lightning rim widened there a couple of years ago to accept a 280 rear tire. I talked to Sandy. Nice guy to talk to. He seemed really easy going. My widening cost about 600.00. It took about 5-6 weeks.

There were no bearings in the wheel when it came back even though I sent it with them in.

The powder coat was removed only on the lip where the weld was done. It looked as though the coating was removed with a wire wheel brush. There was no option for them to repaint the wheel that I was aware of.

The welds on both sides had uniform beads and look as if done by a machine. It's quality work. There are plenty of pictures of the welding work. Just Google for them. I considered smoothing and removing the weld line on the rims. But after some research it was advised not to grind it off.

Sandy doesn't call and tell you its done and on the way. You don't usually get a tracking number via email. The wheel just shows up one day. I hope that helps.

I have a couple questions. How did you pay for the job and when did you pay for the job?

I called Sandy three weeks ago to clarify that I a can send my rim to Kosman. Then I sent my rim with 1 day delivery. So now I am waiting a call from Kosman with further instructions.
