I plan on purchasing a translucent "Cherry Bomb" red airbox cover for my "09" Firebolt.
My Question: what's the deal with the molded black "X" on the top? Why do some have it...and some don't?
It's not as if it's an accessory with an adhesive backing, sent along with your new airbox purchase. From what I've read...it seems to be hit or miss....some guys open the box and have the "black X" model, some don't. Regardless of the color.

Your thoughts? MEATHOOKS (Las Vegas)

The X was an item found on the CityX models and were intended to be a "shelf" to place a tank bag on easier. As far as ordering ones now, I'm not sure why some of them are getting them delivered with or without. Maybe something that isn't being specified during ordering?

I know the SS and SCG's were offered in Translucent colors as well minus the "X" so I'd check and see if that's an option in a drop down menu.

Also, Welcome to the board. There's a few of us on here from Vegas (including myself). Been trying to get the group together to ride.

Is this the P/N: M1224.4ACMCC you are ordering? got it from Buellparts.net, pic displayed on the site did not have the X on it

is there another P/N for the one with the X ? just wondering

Do you currently have a black with red logo airbox cover, i would trade if its in excellent condition. I have an 09 lightning.

(1) dmp0001: Thanks for the offer Bro but, I'll be holding onto my stock airbox cover so a trade is not an option.
(2) thrstmech: I've found no dropdown option when ordering or ANY explanation for the "with X" - "without X" feature. Pretty dumb if you ask me.
(3) Enemy Zero: anytime brother. HMU@ [email protected] (I'm central NW...Charleston / Buffalo area) I'm more of a winter rider as this desert heat turns my tightie whities into a make-shift Stir Fry Wok.

When you order the X may not be applied already. When I ordered my Valencia Orange plastics the Buell stickers for the airbox cover were not on applied.

You may want to contact whomever you are ordering from and ask if the X is already on the airbox or not.

if anyone else has a clear airbox and wants a different color, I'd trade as well. just let me know what you have and what color you are looking for.

There are 2 different part numbers for each airbox

But that does not mean the X is already applied to the airbox by HD.

The different part number may just include the X but that it needs to be applied. And someone may never have the X on the airbox even though the part number lists it as one "with the X".

So if the OP is concerned whether the X is already on the airbox or not, it may be moot if the X is "included" but not placed on the airbox when shipped. The OP will have the choice. As I posted above, the Buell stickers were not applied to my airbox when I purchased it.

The buell stickers usually come not applied. I think the x is always applied. I have never heard of anyone receiving it uninstalled. I have also never seen it available separately as a part. You either get the air box part number with the x already glued on, or you get the part number without it altogether. There have been threads of ppl trying to remove the x and buff the plastic out but I haven't seen one that looked that great.
