Well, my speedometer is not working after the low beam HID install. HID is working great though - LOL! I took the fairing off yesterday. I checked around for quite a while and I didn't see any issues with the wiring. In fact it all looks in really good shape. I dismounted the instrument cluster and pulled back the rubber seal. All wires there were tight and clean. Of course, I checked the fuse before I started - LOL - it was fine. I swapped it with another one just in case. According to the shop manual I should test the speedometer with a "speedometer tester".... we all have those lying around, right? Most of the other posts on this topic say to replace the sensor. It would be a heck of a coincidence if the sensor just went out at the same time I was installing the HID. I know the speedo worked before the install. It seems like it's probably something I did. The cluster does have backlighting and the tach works. Anybody got any ideas?

if the hid install didn't take that long, the first thing i would try is swapping back to the original headlight. Always a chance somethings wrong with that. You could also try lifting the rear tire with a stand and check the voltage while it is idling in gear.

Your guess would've been mine as well. There have been instances of wires breaking around the steering neck. Maybe you just happened to pull it a bit and caused it? Then again during riding I imagine the speedo would've come on for a split second.

Does the speedo do the self check at startup?

Yep, speedo does self check .... Both needles sweep. Strange. As I said, all of the wiring under the front fairing is in good shape, but ya never know. I'll get under there again and go through all the wiring and connections but if I don't find anything I guess I'll get a new sensor. There has not been even a blip from the speedo needle when riding so for whatever reason there seems to be zero volts reaching the needle. From what I've read, it still looks like the sensor but my gut is telling me it's too much of a coincidence.
