The guy I bought this bike from was unsure of the exhaust type. It looks to me like the Buell Race Exhaust, but I was unable to find any labels or indicators of its maker. Any help or confirmation would be appreciated.

im saying buell race pipe, and no you can not get them new anymore, watch ebay and such, they pop up every once in a while

yyup buell race pipe likely has the whole race kit wich was a kn filter the muffler and a Ecm
if you ever have the front fairing off it should say for race use only

if you take a close look underneath you will see a stamped paragraph about it being for race use only and blah blah blah. it is a factory race pipe. your ecm should be stamped 'race' as well.

Factory race pipe. Buell called the package Racekit. It includes a race only muffler, ECM and a K&N filter. I have it on my 2003 XB9R.

Oh yes the infamous "dealer installed" "factory race can". It's maker and origin are unknown and seem to add to the mystique, mystery and marvel that seem to surround this muffler. Highly sought after and very elusive. Hang on to it FOREVER

I have heard if you store in a damp area it can reproduce itself.

Haha from the look of it past storage in a damp area only resulted in some rust on it, but thanks for the added info. Is the K&N filter higher flow or anything special? Reason I ask is that the filter has been replaced with some other brand but is quite dirty, so should the replacement be the K&N? Hopefully this question isnt blatantly obvious or stupid...

should the replacement be the K&N?
The K&N's are lifetime filters and yes high flow as well. You simply buy what is called a charge kit made by K&N. The instructions will be on the box. You can pick the kit up at your local parts store [up]
