Damn I went to ship my low seat to a fellow member on here and they charged me $27 for parcel post and delivery confirmation. It would only have been $15 but they charged me $12 for over sized package too. I remember a few years ago I sent a sent of slot mags 15x10 to Texas from Pennsylvania and it cost $15 a box and they weighed 20 lbs a piece!!!!

Tell me about it. Everytime I sell something, I take a bath on shipping.

The usps is about as poorly run business as there is. It's been well publicized that they are hemorrhaging money. According to Fox News:

The USPS is losing up to $25 million dollars a day. Until now, taxpayers have not been on the hook for its mounting losses, but that could be about to change. A bill recently approved by the Senate would appropriate $34 billion in federal money.

They have also recently emliniated Saturday delivery.

I sold a Lightning seat to a guy in Florida recently and shipped from SoCal was just over 17 bucks parcel post, the box was fairly large, packed the seat on it's side and placed in the box at an angle from corner to corner...

If I don't get mail from usps they don't even stop to pick up if I have something going out.... they wonder why people pay bills online..... its absolutely rediculous. In my area I don't even have a postal truck its a subcontracted person who drives there own vehicle..... the government tries to screw us anyway they can.....

I gotta say I have had significantly better luck with usps compared to any other company. The most expensive thing I shipped was to australia to a member on here, it was a full set of plastics and was two boxes, around $70/ea box. I didn't think that was TOO crazy, they were large boxes going to the other side of the world. I got quotes from ups and fed ex both were over $500.

If its a big box (Seat, wheels, swing arm, etc...) UPS is the way to go. If its a smaller box or large envelope, USPS is the best choice.

With XB Lights, I ship everything USPS and I really like them. Even other stuff I sell online, pay and print the label online and throw it in the drop box at the post office 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and all done.
Unless its international, then you have to go to a clerk.

^^^what rah said! I've had a god experience thus far. Good rates and free packaging AND they pick up at my door for free so no trips to the post office. Hopefully the prices stay reasonable. I know I'm doing my part keeping USPS afloat with the shipping we do through them! ;)

No way rah..... ups wanted $60 to ship it.... they don't charge by weight anymore it goes by size and I think that's rediculous

Not entirely true. They only charge by size when the package is large (Sounds like an ad for a male gigolo! LOL). I think and box dimension longer than 12 or 18"? UPS and FedEx have similar policies. Seats are pretty long so I'm guessing your box was considered "large" so they charged you for size in stead of weight. They have an interactive shipping quote function on their site if you're curious...

I also forgot USPS gives the priority boxes out for free! That's a huge plus!!

I do try and always cut my boxes down to fit the item with protective wrapping as snugly as possible. The 2 seats I shipped semi recently had boxes cut down to fit with a few inches of bubble wrapping around all sides. Nothing bigger. Bigger the box, more it costs.

But that was about a year ago, haven't dealt with UPS since.

And screw FedEx. I hate how they operate. All drivers are commission and certain drivers won't take certain packages based on what service was used (overnight, ground, 2-day,etc...)

I had a return to go out to Apple. It had a pre-printed label for FedEx 2-day. It sat for 2 weeks as the two FedEx guys I see daily don't cover 2-day. That's another guy.. Stupid. And I hate commission based jobs. Pay someone hourly so they know what to expect in their account every paycheck. If they are slow (main reason for commission) fire them and move on.
