Have any of you experienced this on your 1125R?

I filled my tank yesterday, then drove about 8-10 miles on the freeway in 90+ degree weather to class... When I parked I noticed that my Fuel overflow tube was dripping more than usual (and no I did not fill the tank completely full, just to the first metal ring in the tank.)

Anyway, I wanted to see if the fuel had expanded enough to really go over the lip that much. Well I opened the tank and gas erupted from it like a volcano (roughly 2 gallons worth and went about 2-3 feet in the air from the opening.) Gas got all over me, my bike, and the ground.

I took the bike home to wash the fuel off, and check for any other issues that would cause it. I dont know if that is to be expected when the bike is hot and it has a fresh tank of gas?? kinda odd... The bike runs fine and is still staying at normal temps. any help appreciated.

Sounds like your fuel tank vent might be holding to much pressure in the tank.

You might check the line for kinks/pinch points.

Wow! that could have been a horrible situation if that gas ignited... scary stuff! Hope you get it figured out!

no kidding.... I was at school, so I went to the book store to buy a new shirt as I reeked of gas... I waited about an hour to start it even after I doused the bike with a couple bottles of water.

It happens to all 1125's thats one of the problems they have been having. I had to install the Cali Can because I park mine inside the basement.

Wiat til you hear the gas boiling in the tank. That scared the crap out of me the first time.

Thanks to all that replied. I took the bike home, and inspected the overflow hose. Couldnt find anything wrong... Checked the fuel vent... couldnt find anything wrong.

Ended up cleaning K&N filter to help with airflow, draining then re-filling coolant container (never hurts, and removed inner airbox cover as it is less restrictive to the hose. I havent had any problems since.

My thought is that it was bad gasoline and a hot day. I used 91 octane, but at a gas station I had never used before. I added a bit of an octane booster to the rest of the tank, and the problem seemed to work itself out. I havent even heard the slightest pressure release when opening my fuel cap now.
