Montezuma Valley Road back in June...

- 1 week in the hospital due to a severe concussion,
- shattered right scapula
- 8 ribs broken on the right side (out of 12)
- punctured right lung

3 months later, I am back to normal... was very lucky.

Here is the video:

WOW. That was a wicked crash man. I can't believe your gopro got all of that footage! Glad you're okay. Poor Hero Blue xb though :(

That was painful to watch.. been there done that. You took it like a man wavex... that gear saved your life, your head looked like it hit 3-4 times just in that last 2 seconds of the video.

Thanks for posting this wavex, we got new guys coming into the sport that need to see this... and learn the value of protective gear.

How is the bike by the way, I see you bashed in your frame pretty bad.. no frame pucks.. is that frame salvageable?

Riding fast on the street is one thing, riding fast on a public street with woods around is another, but riding fast on a rocky mountain sandy road... thats a time bomb waiting to happen. I am glad you are alright and thats a quick turn around!

I know those roads all too well! Had my share of close calls there. What was that blackish patch in the road? Did that cause your front to let out?

Glad you're OK! Hopefully you won't have any long lasting effects from the concussion either. You DEFINITELY don't want to risk getting another one!
As your video demonstrates, AGATT, and dress for the crash, not the weather!

glad you're ok, second that...your gear saved your ass! how did the bike come out in the end, able to build her back up?

Sorry, fixed the video, here it is again:

Thx all... Almost 50k miles (on track, and all over Cali) on that Buell without a crash and then this :) The Buell actually made it through OK... I did have frame pucks as well, which saved a lot of things... AAA sent it to a Harley dealer and they're working on it... they were almost done with it ($3500 repair, mainly the swingarm and subframe, and left engine cover), but last week (3months later) they called me to tell me they took the frame pucks off and noticed a small dent in the frame... WTF... so they sent another adjustment to AAA for $2000, but that would have put it over the threshold... so I don't know what AAA will do... anyone with a similar experience can shed some light?

Oh and yes, my helmet was 1 week old and I was wearing full gear as usual. Without it, and without some massive luck, I'd be dead twice over right now. The "top of helmet" Contour camera (which still works perfectly btw) didn't catch how I didn't just end at the bottom of the 300 feet cliff, but I was definitely lucky, and my gear saved my life...

The frame having a small dent you can argue is superficial and cosmetic, doesnt require replacement. Keeps the bike from salavage and/or total. Happened to mine, dent pulled right out with a slide hammer with 2 taps. Put new frame pucks on never ever know. Dont let insurance total it over a dent!!!!

Holy shit thats lucky man!! Did you straighten up after seeing the blak patch or did it make the front end wash out?

Theycallmecrash: thanks... will try.

Kiwi: the front slid 2 feet to the right... wasn't skilled enough to pull it back on time...[down]

I am glad that you are ok, it totally looked like you were a skilled BREAK dancer. No pun intended. Well whatever happens I hope its for the best and its a good thing you were all geared up![up]

wicked vid
glad your ok,
bikes can be replaced..Buellers can't!

ATGATT [up]
big ups for knowing that you were going too hot for the road and it bite you, (I saw you wobble just a bit in a corner before you lost it and thought to myself...this is where I would have backed off)

def was not your time so enjoy!

Yeah shit happens... I had gone down Montezuma dozens of times before and at a much faster clip too... that day I wasn't pushing (no knees down or anything), but I still managed to fuck up... just hit it the wrong way that time I guess... learned my lesson.
