Vmax are fast bikes?

We hired a new guy. He has a Vmax he's rebuilding and said it was the fastest straight line bike for years. I saw 145hp, but 600lbs, so I laughed it off. Thought he meant fastest cruiser, and any sportbike or Buell would destroy him.

Looks like I'm wrong? 10 second quarter miles from those things? wtf. How is 145hp/600lbs as fast as a 155hp/400lb crotch rocket? More weight to keep the power to the ground?

Someone educate me.

i want a VMAX, they are stupid fast, I ride with a guy who owns one. They don't play, and will walk away from you in any gear. You wanna talk about a wild bucking bronco! He ran a high 9 on his (no it's not stock) on a crappy track and never caught traction (basically hung off the left side of the bike down the track while the rear tried to chase the front tire. they will loop out with the slightest of throttle. (and you can get them cheap)

I've admired and been afraid of those for years And fat guy I knew had one in like 1990 and he would destroy new liter bikes in drag races all the time. The 2010 is bad ass...

Yeah, I saw one in a store while I was goofing off. I thought "wtf...a cruiser bike that I like the looks of?"

And to think, it's stupid fast, too.

Those bikes were build to be street drag race bikes. They are ugly as sin, but look into their history, that's exactly what they were made for.

VMax's are legends since they first appeared, torque monster is an understatement..
I think the 2010's have something like 200 HP..
what for I ask?

Like the look of the older ones personally..
..the new ones to me look like its a cross between a car, truck, bike and spaceship....
make sure you wear your Dark Knight riding leathers whilst riding...or dress like a squid!

my buddies, is pushing 210-220hp, it's an '86 raked and stretched with the yellow and white kenny roberts paint. i love that thing. he's got 30 years of riding, 20 of racing bikes and he whoops that max's ass. It's a sight to see.

Not sure how the power compares but it's got a great look to it, aside from the exhaust.

i wouldnt sat fastest but one of the quickest.i saw a couple of guys at the strip run against each other one on a v-max one on a bking and the bking took him by a couple of bikes every time. the guy on the v-max admitted the bking was faster by about 10mph on the top end his maxed at 140 mph.the v-max is better looking but cost a lot more.

years ago I had a neighbor that had a Vmax (one of the original ones).

I actually thought it was kind of a cool-looking bike. It was brutally quick, and sounded wicked. I've always liked them.

The new ones look a little cartoonish. I think with some minor mods they would look a little better.

I just can't imagine having that kind of power on the street though. I think my XB12 is plenty fast for me!

the vmax was billed as the fastest accelerating bike not the fastest.it would beat the 1000s and busas until about 120 mph after that the horse power and higher gears of the 1000s and busas would leave the torque and lower gears of the vmax behind.the newer vmax has 197 hp but still has low gears also they have no aerodynamics.as an example i had a 72 pinto with around 350 hp and 6.88 gears.i would eat my friends 600 hp vette with 3.90 gears for about a block after that he was gone. gearing is the key to everything from top fuel cars to tractors.hope this helps paniller.

no not faster quicker.busas will do 190 mph vmax 145 mph the vmax will just get to abuot 120-130 quicker than a busa. you can have a car that is able to do 200 mph but that dosnt mean you can beat a car with a top speed of 150 in the 1/4 mile.vrod is in a different ballpark minor league compared to major league

Imagine what it feels like to pilot a Pro-Stock drag car or even a Top Fuel dragster....acceleration so intense you just about pass out!

a 190mph busa...meh. I'll take the brutal acceleration of the Vmax any day.
