So yesterday I'm riding back to San Diego from Phoenix and I decide to take another route than the one I cam in on and after about 40 miles I'm on the 8 heading west and am going about 80 to 85 mph. I notice what seems to feel like a strong head wind pushing on me that was odd since none of the trees and shrubs were moving at all. After about five to tens minutes I just happened to run a hand over my leather jacket and noticed that it was sort of bunched up so I pulled and smoothed it down and "Whoa" all of a sudden my mph jumps up like 5mph!

The jacket was causing major drag, like a drag shoot! I couldn't believe how much difference it made since I have a 9R. I could only imagine what an S would feel like if your leathers caught as much wind.

Anyone else ever have this happen?

I ride an S and wear mesh gear during the summer and I feel like a screen door in a Hurricane above 50 mph. But you get used to it and its comfortable after you learn to lean into it slightly. My hands feel neutral on the grips and I can ride all day without numbness or fatigue. [up] I love standard bikes.

My leather jacket is SNUG on me. I have the side adjustments pretty tight so that my jacket can't bunch up like that.

Another thing I do at that speed is tuck down a lot more.

when I first got my jacket it was a little big on me. When ever I would ride over 40 it felt like I was trying to pilot a sail boat. Now I've gotten lazy and gained weight it fits fine I dont notice it anymore.[sad]

My perforated leather does that some times. it will let the air in the front then the back is solid so i kind of inflate. not sure it i noticed it creating drag but I'll definitely have to check that out. I'm like midnight if im cruising over 50 i'm laying down on the airbox with my left hand resting on the frame puck.

Now you know how to increase lifespan on your brakes.

Whenever I need to slow down on the freeway, I just sit straight up. The drag from the wind alone slows me pretty fast.

If you've got a proper sized "Motorcycle" jacket, shouldn't have any flapping. Most I've had and seen, all fit pretty tight.

I'm a tough fit for sure, I'm a 46 chest with a 31 waist and only 5'7". Most XL's I try on are way too long. My jacket wasn't flapping but since it's more cruiser than sport bike style it's longer in the midsection. So that's why it bunched up.

WhenI bought my leather jacket I took it to a tailor and had him take in the sides and arms for a nice fit. No more flapping or wind going up the sleeves. It was $100 well spent as the jacket fits great now. If your jacket is too big stop by a leather tailor and they should be able to alter it to fit correctly. No sense in looking like a tent going down the road!

many jackets have a loop that wraps and snaps around your belt to help keep the jacket from filling w/air, maybe have one or two installed, might help
