What did you do for your Buell today?

I took my Cyclone out for 150+ mile ride. (90+ miles through the mountains and 60 miles on the highway) My bike is the only thing that makes my 1.5 hour commute tolerable. I do have to say, at 31* this morning, it was ******* chilly at 80 mph!!!!

Yea I like the HAwk, Rode my bike to work today. Stock exhaust for the first time and was drowned out by a fellow co workers HArley 103 cI. I have not done a Tps reset or anything else yet.

Started tearing pieces off to route wires for the wideband. Need to get a motorcycle jack so that I can take the fan out and replace the sensor. Unless someone else has any ideas? [confused]

i just put my new low seat and got a few parts powdercoated

Rode to work today, first ride since breather re-route and there was at least a tablespoon of clear liquid in the catch can after only 20 miles. Is that normal?

I got my CRG mirrors in and put those on.

And my Axle sliders... Put those on too and perfect fit.

I installed my left and right carbon fiber symetrical air scoops from MDI Carbon Fiber Performance Aftermarket Parts

This company is very freindly and easy to work with. The quality of MDI products is superior (and I have used a lot of carbon fiber parts from other companies) and their service is outstanding. Their communication is excellent. If you have a problem MDI will take care of it to above and beyond your expectations. Add to that their great prices. I got BOTH scoops for $199 shipped (which is less than the price of only the right side scoop alone that I have seen from other companies - and that is not even in carbon fiber). I highly recommend MDI for your parts.

I am very impressed by how the scoops look on my XB12R. If not more importantly, the bike runs notably cooler now that I have a large right side scoop installed (which provides substantially more cooling air flow to the rear cylinder). Immediately, on the same ride that used to cause the fans on the bike to run, now with these scoops installed, the fans do not even come on at all.

The installation is not difficult. The left scoop comes with holes in it. As is typical with most custom parts, in my experience, whether they be fiberglass, carbon fiber, or whatever, each part is slightly different one from the next, as I understand it due to their hand-made nature, and not as consistent as the mass-produced plastic molded parts. So in the case of the left scoop I received, I did have to ream out the two front holes to the next larger diameter so that the screws would drop in without interference, but that is no big deal.

The right side scoop does not come with any pre-drilled holes - which I understand is due to some slight mouting hole differences between XB's - which is also not a real big deal, but let me give you a little tip on how to do this hassle-free.

To accurately mark the locations of the holes you will need to drill, the best method is to use blind hole spotters (or transfer pins). You can buy a set of these, but instead of spending that kind of money, you can make your own. Cut a bolt of the respective size and thread, chucked it in a drill and use an abrasive to roughly cut it to a point (you could use a lathe if you have one).

Here is what my home-made tranfer pin looked like:

Here are the threaded mounting brackets for the scoops:

Then you just screw the pointed stud in place until just a bit of the point is protruding from the top surface of the mounting bracket, so it will just touch the scoop when you put the scoop in place:

Then you place the scoop in location precisely where it needs to be mounted and smack lightly on the surface of the part opposite where the pointed stud is (I used the wood handle of a hammer - something so you don't cause damage and dents).

Here are two of the punch marks in the carbon fiber scoop:

Repeat for all three mounting spots.

Then I drilled pilot holes where the punch marks were:

Then drilled the holes to the final required diameter.

And here is how the scoops look on the bike:

Right scoop:

And front view of bike showing both left and right air scoops and how much more symetrical it makes the bike look (the right scoop curls up at the bottom to allow clearance of the exhaust pipe):

GO BUELL! I think this is one of the best mods you can make to your XB.

Put on a new rear. Went with Michelin Pilot Road 2, 190/50. Credit to Dave for the recommendation. Was happy with the feel. It was definitely different at first, not quite as responsive, but that quickly changed after a few miles of getting used to it. Love the look of the bigger tire.
