Top shelf at my local shop is Drag Specialties Premium, I think it's 20W50.

Should I use something special in this particular engine?

Opinions are welcomed. [up]

And for your blinkers use this stuff. It works wonders.

Seriously, though, that's a very loaded question and you'll get tons of opinions...

Here's mine: Any quality synthetic 20w50...

Sorry I asked, but on the bright side I'm glad I waited until there were 7 stupid replies before I checked.:p

I stated the question wrong actually, my bad.

What do you use in your XB12R would have been more appropriate.

EDIT: and thanks to the 2 of you who actually included your opinion on motor oil.

Sorry, you kinda had to have been here a while to understand. For your next question - ask whats the best tire to use.

I was actually wondering too what most people use on them because im new to the buell world and picking up my xb12s this weekend and was gonna have the oil changed and what not

The problem with that question is almost like asking what the best beer is: men have been debating this since the dawn of time....

For the record, it seems most are very happy with Amsoil 20w50 full synth. A large percentage also like Mobile One V-Twin 20w50. Then there are those (like me) that use non-motorcycle specific synthetic oils like Mobile One or Rotella... The important thing, really, is to get a quality oil in the 20w50 range.

Good luck.

Well, the oil that's in there looks pretty black, but it's not really using any in 995 miles. I think I'll just switch it to the Drag Specialties Premium....with a black K&N filter to replace the hideous orange filter that's on there.

20/50 motor oil in engine and primary. any kind.

regular oil change every 3,000 miles

syntehtic change according to specs. Most syns last twice the mileage as regular.

Always change the oil filter everytime.

DO NOT use a torque wrench on either drain plug. Be careful and DO NOT overtighten them. Snug them on and ride for a few miles come home and check them. Ride and repeat from time to time.

Yeah in all seriousness any synthetic 20w50 will do fine. I have motul in my engine now and mobile one in the primary. I plan on switching from motul to mobile one next oil change. Also if you have the jardine i had a biatchen time getting the k&n to center up on the threads of the case. Jardine chine fairing bracket is all hell in the way.[cool]

I personally prefer Amsoil over Mobil1 - I used Mobil1 V-twin for about 1500 miles (1 1/2 years), then switched to Amsoil - I *think* overall it's a little smoother.

But, FWIW - I still use Mobil1 in my wife's Touareg and my M3 with no issues.

As others have stated - any synthetic is great for an oil change, then if you'd like, change your flavor for your next one and see if your bike likes it better.

And of course, follow Lesley's advice - no torquing the drain plugs!
