I was kindof torn on how this should play out, so lets hear some thoughts.

Went to the Steve ott (Dallas stars) bike rally

Probably about 400 bikes. 80 degrees beautiful weather. People walking around looking at bikes, etc.

Bikes parked next to each other obviously.

I'm watching from about 25 feet away when I see a Harley fall off the kickstand into another Harley. Nobody in the immediately vicinity, nobody breathing on the bike or anything. Its kickstand malfunctioned. I walk over to help get the bike back upright at the same time the owners of both bikes come running up.

Now before I go sharing the outcome I want some opinions.

Does the bike that initially fell owe damage $$ to the bike it fell on?

Or is it like, umm shit happens. Sorry man. You're parked where this could possibly happen

Thoughts??

the bike that initially fell is responsable for the bike it fell on.unless it was bumped or helped in some other way.

Jeez GoDuc, another saturday night by yourself and nobody to go out with giving you too much time to think ? :p

I'd go with your last theory by the way.

Actually believe it or not, this date is still going on haha, sitting on the patio at boomerjacks in euless

I think if my bike got hit by another bike, accident or not, I might be inclined to try and collect. I guess it would depend on whether or not the dude was an A$$hole about it or not. If he was cool about it and offered, I'd probably say no worries and chalk it up. If he was a dick, I'd collect.

I have a feeling you are going to be erroneously blamed for this. Hand in the cookie jar type thing as you just happened to be the one to help pick them up?

AWESOME MAN !!! Let me know if it progresses further and you need some rubbers ! I found some in my wallet from 21 yrs ago and don't need them anymore. [up]

NA haha, I was more like the referee. Told them both "I was Standing over there, nobody around the bikes. His kickstand obviously failed" girl I was with saw it happen and told them the same as well

Anyway, the owners of the bikes were being cool. He wasn't a dbag but did offer to fix the other bike. Then the other guy actually said you fix yours ill fix mine, lets call it even since it wasn't your fault. Which I thought was pretty cool.

So bummed I moved out of the metroplex before the Stars moved from MN. Would love to take a trip back one day.

@ GOduc: Do you remember what color/model that bike was? maybe silver-black combo; saddlebags; windshield?

It's good that they were mature and responsible about it. If someones bike fell into mine I'd think they should be responsible for it, if you park your car on a hill and the transmission brakes and it rolls into another car, it's your responsibility, right? Same thing here.

If it happened to me and the guy was good about it I'd try to be as fair as possible so as not to rip them off.

I got a story kinda like this,
Was on a benefit poker run, weather wasn't real good so only a few bikes in attendance, any way, one of the guys that was caging behind us, goes into the bar, well, exwife and new boyfriend are there, so he turns to leave, psycho ex runs after him climbing all up on his back, he gets her off as they get into parking lot, then boyfriend attacks him from the back, buddy swings around with a beer bottle clocking psycho's boy right above the jaw, rocks him back into another friends brand new HD, bike falls over with psycho boy sprawling out on it causing some scratches to windshield and other bling.
Who should be held responsible for the damages? Oh yeh, the police did show up.

Who should be held responsible for the damages
the ex old lady for not being a better one wich led to the split and if it wasnt for the split there wouldnt be new boyfriend or the need to clock his ass and no damaged bike

You would think so, but nah, just a hole in the wall that happen to sponsor part of the run, later int he same day, keep in mind, this was a "public invited" benefit to raise money for "Susan G. Komen" breast cancer fund, we had an interracial couple that has always supported just about any benefit we have, were refused service at this same POS bar, needless to say this place was blacklisted from all future benefits and "most" of the our regulars have refused to patronize them, I'm surprised they are still in business, but here in Alabama it happens to be considered a "Privste/Members only" club, it gets them around a lot of the normal laws and regulations of a bar
