whats this plug do and why cant i see oil in there?

Not positve, but I think it is an "oil galley" plug, will only have oil when running, we have dry sump oiling systems
 
That's what I'm here for to unload some of the useless knowledge I have been storing for years.;)

But their is a timing mark on the crank and that where it is viewed. They even sell clear or windowed plugs to put in place of the factory one.
 
LOL I was just thinking Looks like the timing plug on my old iron sporty...I suppose they haven't changed location for 55 yrs on the Sportster based engines (which I include xb's)
