So I was heading to work today and not even a mile from my house and the oil light came on. I checked it the oil a few days ago and was fine so this is really confusing to start with. I turned around and went slowly back to my house, the bike died going into my driveway and I put some oil in and started it and it was making a crazy rattling sound and died. So I called in to work and tore the motor down, NOTHING WAS BAD OFF!! It was kind of annoying, I mic'ed everything and the piston rings were a little worn and most of the sound seemed to be coming from the lifters. Tomorrow I am ordering rings and lifters since it was the only things that were off. All this goes down after just doing a chain conversion and buying a rossi replica helmet so of course this goes down when I am broke!

the lifters work on oil pressure, your light came on, cause of oil pressure low...diagnose that. or youll have done a lot of work for nothing and maybe more damage

The light has been off since I added the oil, it turned out it was low. The oil pump is new as well with just 10k miles on it. But good point I am going to check that.

very low, I added over a quart. But like I said I am going check on the oil pump. Its my only mode of transportation so I seriously need to knock this out with one order.

1qt isnt enough to set your light. been there after 1000mile trip no light. id suspect oil pump, drive gear, or possibly even a blockage in oil line or swing arm. dont just throw parts at it, but while your there some lifters, a hone, and rings wont hurt, then youll have to break it in again and let every thing seat

I found it, the end of the dipstick broke off and was in the line. I work at an h-d dealer and everyone was pretty amazed at that. Only one person there had seen something like that before. Thanks for the help in checking the oil pump![up]
