I love it! You are going to get more people dropping by. Just to help you 'fix' you garage door:D

Do you think its a good idea to use electromagnets to hold the door pieces together? You could select the type of opening with a multi channel remote (or bluetooth smartphone), even from outside. Press '1' for one section, '2' for 2 sections etc...

I like this! but im a bit confused as to how the lower 2 panels are connected to the whole thing? Like just locking them to the rails stops them from going up, but what connects them to the other 2 panels?

Looks a great idea to me! My 2 cents would be the addition of some sort of fly screen, may be a roller blind style but mounted up side down. The main roller mechanism could mount to the top of the lowest panel and the retractable screen could be attached to the bottom of which ever panel you remove the latches from and pull up to create an opening that is fly protected. It would work in the reverse of the current available set ups http://www.garagedoor-screen.com/retractable-garage-door-screen/ and would be on the inside of the door so it wouldn't be weather damaged when not in use.

Oh and I accept royalty payment by PayPal

That's a real good idea. It would be helpful to me for welding in my shop. I could just open the top panel to vent fumes. With the whole door open I'm afraid someone outside will be staring at the arc and hurting their eyes. I think I'm going to do this for my top panel. Any more than that though an I feel a second spring set up would be a good idea. Just for the heck of it I split my door at the center section and the top two panels were quite a bit heavier than the entire door with the spring.

I'd be afraid I'd burn out my electric lift. But my door is much wider than yours.

I think a professional kit would include a second spring to support the separated panels, and auto latch's like you mentioned to grab the bottom just by closing the door. They could operate just like the electric opener disconnect does. While the set up you have is perfect for most anyone you find working on cars or bikes, the general population of uncoordinated will want (need) a simple single operation step to unlatch and latch. I have an idea for that....

Great idea. Thanks!
