It didn't take me long to wreck my bike, I was on one of my favorite rides and unfortunately the road shoulders were built up with gravel and some got thrown back on the road. Going about 45 or 50 mph through a turn when I hit it. Got thrown sideways and felt like I was going to have a high-side wreck so I just laid it down. Went over a bank, not a scratch on me except for an arm broken in two places, had all my protective gear on and feel lucky at that. Not sure what my arm hit, maybe the handlebar. My bike looks in good shape, no obvious damage, the pucks and sliders helped I think, My CRG mirrors didn't break, don't ask me how! I have a lot of dirt in the left air intake, some scuffs on the airbox cover, my front tire was against a small tree and the rear was wedged behind another one, lots of dirt in between the wheel and tire. What do you guys think I should have checked out? It's an 07 xb12scg with 4000 miles, was perfect before the wreck. I've got a service manual, I'm a decent parts changer but no motorcycle mechanic. I want to make sure everything's ok, should I just take it to the local Harley dealer for a good going over or look for anything obvious and try a test ride? Thanks for any suggestions, be careful and ride safe,

You know what they say, there's two types of riders, those that have been down, and those that are going down.

Its good to hear you made it out a live.

I say take it to the dealer.

Glad you're okay (minus the arm)! I'd definitely take it to a dealer or other good motorcycle mechanic (I don't have a dealer nearby, but there's a shop in town that only works on Harleys and Buells). Like you, I'm mechanically inclined but no motorcycle mech. I'd want to have it checked by someone who knew what to look for!

Man, it could've been a lot worse. Glad you're not too bad off.

The lots of dirt being in your air scoop and tires/wheels, And the lack of damage; it seems like the bike had almost stopped before resting against the trees. I'd say to clean it up really good, and take a ride starting out at slow speeds doing some stopping/starting, S manuevers, etc. I'm betting the bike is fine.

Agree, just clean it real good, remove the air box to make sure the filter isn't clogged with dirt.

I also agree. Clean her up and take her out for a short and gentle ride and see what you come up with. Sorry about the arm buddy.

As others suggested clean it up then I would put the bike on stands and spin the wheels looking to see if the wheels are bent or out of alignment. If all looks well I would take it to get the wheels balanced. Also do a quick check of handle bar/front wheel alignment. I then would take it for a test ride.

Protective gear works... FYI replace your helment!

Great point [up]

We're still uncertain if his head has even seen the pavement. HOPEFULLY it hasn't. By the sounds of it, I could be wrong, but by the write up, he slid on his side along with the bike, therefore his head never made contact.

clean off the bike, go to a tire centre and let them balance your wheels.
if the wheels are deformed, your weights will be off.
placing them on stand is good to see if your axle is out of alignment, but if it's just a little bit, you won't see it...you will feel it during testriding.

when getting back on the bike, start off easy, cause you will hesitate in corners and that's when the stupid stuff happens.

if your helmet is scratched, replace it.

Thank God you are ok, Every time you ride you learn something, I went down 10 years ago and the only thing I lost was my pride and a helmet-thank you Lord!
