I would like to take my 2000 X1 and put a XB9 crank in does anyone have any info on what I am going to run into before I get started on this? I have a full working machine shop so that won't be to big of a problem just would like to know if it can be done and what the differences are.

As far as i can see I will have to change to a timken bearing and I will have to spec the timing on the pinion side to make sure that the timing is the same or not. Does anyone here know for sure anything about what is different between the two??

Here is the start of the project have the boss taking out the trany here.
The goal in this is to put in my 05 Xb9 crank for the short stroke then have the heads redone not sure who I am going to have do them yet but I would like it to be able to put the rpm's up around 8500 or more making 100hp and tq. The motor that I had before was a rebuild stock crank that I did and that did 8k rpm's and had 883 cyl's heads I did no flow guessed it the best I could and made 76hp and 53tq will post the dyno sheet tomorrow night if I get time beings it a holiday weekend.

Starting the kid off right, dig the project! Only thing I dont like about my X1. Tons of grunt right up until the computer pulls the plug on the fun!

ya this bike has been a lot of fun. has been thru a lot with me from drag racing to the brute horsepower shoot outs and now its time to set it up for the street again as a sleeper so to speak :D From all the research that I have done it looks like I am going to have to figure out how much I have to change the timing on the pinion shaft for my cams to be right. Will be posting pics as this project comes a long still waiting on the new crank to get here. I hate waiting lol

Well the XB9 crank has come :) After looking it over and looks like his won't be as hard as I first thought (so I hope) the pinion side all looks to be the same so all my X-1 gears will work there that's the good news on the primary side Buell changed from running the timkien bearing to the twin cam lower end flat roller bearing :( so now i am left with either having to machine out the cases and put in the big twin timken of flat roller bearing or machine he shaft down to the stock sportster timken bearing. Not sure yet what is the best way to go yet need a little time to think this over. at the same time I did see that the XB9 cranks run a longer rods then the XB12 so that is a good thing I can use all XL parts like pistons and cyl's or use the XB12 pistons :) After thinking about this today I have also added to my steps of things to do and am going to machine either the crank or the primary gear to take a crank position sensor if I choose to go fuel injected still going on the $$$ for that little project lol but if I do it now I won't have to take the bottom end out again if/and when I go that path. will try to work on this more this weekend and will post pics Sunday night for thos that want to see the build

Here is the old 1200 crank that I did up a few years ago next to the XB9 crank
When all said and done they should look the same

So I took a me day today lol and did the drawing for the crank and what it will be after the teeth are milled in for the crank position sensor
