XB12S: my clock and odometer resets after start-up

When i start my bike,
i push on the start switch but there is a delay between the moment i push the switch to the point when i actually hear the bike start about 2-3 seconds.

After it starts, my clock and the trip odometer reset themselves.

I looked at the battery cable.. they are well connected, does anyone know what could be my problem? [confused]

mine just started doing this as well! I'm not sure if it is upon startup, but I know that every time I start riding, the clock reads 1:00 again.

I've had my Buell for 4 years - it's always done this! Stuff the idea of reading the clock and odometer, read the road instead! Much more fun!

Seriously, I don't know why this happens but I've never bothered to try and fix the ptroblem. As for the delay in starting, turn the ignition on and then wait five seconds before hitting the Start button...the injectors need time to prime...hope this helps.[up]

You may have to disconnect the battery and clean the posts and cable ends with steel wool/ sandpaper to get them clean and expose clean, uncorroded metal. It doesn't take much to create a bad connection. Mine did this for a while,once I cleaned the posts, all was good.

Mine has done it forever also.. I think these bikes are just plain ole hard on batteries... When we shut down and the fan stays running for a while, the battery is draining w/out charging, then sitting with a low charge! cant be good 4 em!!!!!!!

It somehow makes me feel better that i am not alone lol.

I was happy as long as it started...
plus i never looked at that clock much... i simply tough it was weird that i always rode my bike at 1 o'clock lol

Mine does this if the battery is low and i have a rough start.

- Hard to beat the H-D dealership batteries. Lots of $$$$, but they have the high cranking amps a V-twin demands so it doesn't pull the battery down so much @ startup that it resets everything.

the fact that your clock resets, is not normal.

the engine probably takes all the power your battery has left to cranck the engine and doesn't have anything left for you display...

how old is your battery and how do you take care of it?

And in addition to cleaning the contacts, you may want to disconnect your ground connections and clean them, maybe sand a bit the metal at the frame connection point, and re-connect tightly. But sounds like it's time to look at a HD (OEM) battery. You might get by for a while with an older battery as long as you have it on a tender (charger), but older batteries will end up causing you more headaches that it's worth.

My bike is an '04, i changed the battery this year.. brand new. The previous owner had never changed it.

I use a charger once it a while.. that maintains the battery charged. I use it more when it gets colder outside or when i haven't used my bike in +- 3 days.

I got a gel one, its is not an OEM, but it had a higher amp that the one in there initially so i figured it was an added bonus.

I'll check the ground connections.. now connections with an s... how many are there? and where are they?

Your battery is most likely low or going dead. Mine did reset the computer every start when I first got it over a year ago. Got tired of that real quick. Charged the factory H-D battery over night on 2amps. Good To Go.

Same with my friends sealed H-D battery. Was dying. Charged it. GTG.
