anybody have their bike just quit charging suddenly? mine started to run like crap then wouldnt start after i shut it off. replaced the battery tonight and took it for a quick spin...... of course i knew the result already... not charging. with a fresh battery the voltage was 12.4 while running. after a trip around the block....11.2.... so,what am i looking at for cost of repair? this totally blows. the weather is finally starting to get nice and my ktm530exc/r needs tires!

Check the voltage at the battery while idling, if you can crank it. If not check the connector to the voltage regulator, most likely that is what went out. I have a few if you need to replace it.

thats way cool! i have checked the connections and none of them are burnt or corroded. i am going to check the regulator and the stator with ohmmeter to make sure of the problem. let me know what you want for one anyway, i am in klamath falls oregon.

Assuming this is pre-2008 then the regulator connector can cause this and not be obvious - try the checks detailed in my Google Docs link below before you spend $. It will only take half an hour or so at most.

The service manual that you can download from this site details checking the resistance and output of the stator if you need to go further.
Be aware that you need to have the regulator connected to the battery for it to work - you can't measure the output in an open-circuit condition as you can with the stator.
