I am looking at buying a 2005 Buell XB12Ss. I really like the looks and sound of the bike.

I have one question. How is the bike at speed. Do you catch a lot of wind, with that low windscreen? My work is 30miles away and 20 of it is highway.

Will I be fighting the wind all the way there at 65mph?

Thanks:)

I have about 15 miles of freeway to work, at first I did not like the commute (it was kind of windy) but after a month or two I dont even notice the wind anymore.

They are fully exposed bikes, you get the full "wind in your face" experience.
I noticed a huge difference when I bought a good bike jacket with full adjustments so it fits snug and does not act as a parachute. Good luck and enjoy.

I ride 35KM each way to work. You are definatly in the wind but I love it. Good riding grear will definatly help.

Yeah, I commute 35 miles each way from home to work, driving 70mph. The wind isn't too bad at all. What was bad, was the wind noise and I had a full face with chin curtain. Started wearing ear plugs and listening to music occasionally and made the ride much better.

I commute 35 miles give or take each way from home to work as well (each site differs), driving 80-100 mph. The wind isn't bad at all, I actually love it. What's bad is the wind noise from the full face with chin curtain like what stevenc150 said. So I also started listening to my ipod playing music, and with that it has made the rides much better.

+1 on the riding gear and earplugs. I rode quite a bit 20 years ago without a windshield, but wearing a full face helmet with no other riding gear except jeans, sneakers, and a shirt. Anything much past 60mph and that was enough for me.

Fast forward to today and I get back into riding with my 12Ss, and now I'm wearing full gloves, proper jacket, boots, etc. and I'm amazed at how 60 seems slow now and really anything under 80 is perfect. The only time the wind gets bothersome is when it's really windy (20-30mph gusts) and it's a head wind or cross wind.

snug fitting jacket [up]
proper fitting helmet [up] (my Shoei X11 is much quieter than all previous helmets I've owned)

When it gets gusty, I put my left arm across the airbox forearm down, lean forward on it and the wind goes right over me. It's actually very comfy while still stable at highway speed.

+1 for a fitted jacket, and helmet. I commute 40 miles one way everyday and spend 30 one way doing 80 on the highway. You get used to the wind and you'll welcome it on summer days.

Love the wind and the bugs in the bread when I ride. Ive never owned a bike with a windshield, but have riden a few. I feel like I am burning up on them. Rain sucks though, but my jacket helps with that a lot. Go ahead and buy the bike so you can be the outcast with the rest of us. You'll enjoy it, thats for sure. :p

This works for me, it diverts the air to just over your head. Some like, some don't... I love it.

American Sport Bike has a windscreen for less than $100 that is about 5" taler than original. I like the difference it makes in wind blast. I'm still out in the wind, but don't have to work as hard at it at speed or on longer rides.

I love commuting on the Buell. What a way to start and end the workday!. With the torque and handling, it wins the prize for 'most fun at legal speeds".

I like the wind in my face. My streetfighter is good to about 125mph, after that it's a bit crazy.
