Has anyone ever had their ECM re-tuned by Xopti? I am looking to get my ECM re-worked and I like ECMspy but honestly I just dont feel comfortable using it. I just dont fully understand it. But Xopti can retune my ECM by sending me a new tune based on my mods through email for $100. This sounds good to me but I want to know if any of you have had good or bad experiences with them. Thanks!

Sorry, I can't relate experience, but I fully intend on having him re-tune mine once I pull my bike out in the spring.

Take a look on badweb, there are a pile of posts about his tuning abilities. He's first-rate from what I have read.

Good experience here, I was already using SPY, and he helped me get the details dialed in. Bike runs way better than stock, power wheelies in first and often second. No more 2000 rpm surging, no dead spot between 2500 and 3500rpm, no popping under decel, fan runs ALOT less meaning bike is running cooler. Got 48 mpg on a fairly spirited 150 mile ride. It's like the bike was meant to be.

he can get you squared away.

i have been working with him in the past quite a bit. we are currently doing testing so i can offer base map changes for the pipe i build. something no other exhaust mfg'er is doing.

so i think if youre not confident and cant get answers to your questions on here....then get in touch with him and get a tune.

you can also ask your general and not so general questions and ill try and help you as best i can.

He did mine(twice), the first time worked great but I went to a Yoshimura muffler and there is not a map for it since is custom made, Mike(XOPTI) designed a map for me and after downloading feels like a different bike, so from my experience highly recommend, in a nutshell the guy knows Buell tunable ecms.

I'm sure you can with confidence take any advice gbalias gives also, as I have read many of his and Mike's conversations on various sites during the earlier learning times of ECM SPY. He understands SPY quite well.

I've been thinking of "practicing" on my stock setup XB12S until I get the funds to upgrade intake & exhaust (I work automotive, and we all know the uncertainty going on now, don't want to spend unnecessarily...) Anyway, I'd just like to get rid of the occasional airbox coughs, even out the lower rpm surge/slight stumble, maybe improve stock lean cond., etc. Any suggestions or warnings? No access to dyno, as of right now, and already done the breather hose re-route.

Matt: glad someone pays attention to the development. it helps to get the word out on effective adjustments for everyone. it wasnt difficult for me to get into SPY after years of building and tuning turbo cars with standalone ECMs and tuning our "Show Vette" for mods done.

StevenC: as there a a LOT of minor changes that all add up to help driveablilty, i have a couple questions for you...

1- do you have a laptop, ECMSpy, MLV, and the USB-to-ECM cable?

2- have you read the guide to using MLV to help with tuning the new maps?

3- is the bike currently properly tuned? (plugs, static timing, full fluids, etc?) and are there any areas of the driveability other than what you stated that are problematic?

once all thats taken care of, you can start with the obvious changes...

some people like to work with the whole fuel map at one time. I personally like to do it in stages. starting with the idle areas.

for the cruise stumble....ive learned that different bikes need a lil different approach, but the common variable that helps is the "Mid Value" for the O2 sensor. This is located in the ECMConfig Tab in SPY. from factory this value is .49V. Mike discovered that the value actually tuned for a 14.9AFR. yep, on the lean side. For a 14.7, the Mid value needs to be changed to .50V, with some bikes even needing up to .52V. You will also want to DISABLE the white cable option.

theres a whole lot more but it takes time and im at work right now. hehe. so ill keep poking in here to see about other questions.

Yes I have a laptop, ECMSpy, and cable.

Explain MLV if you will, it's probably common sense for most.

Bike seems to be properly tuned. I mean it is stock with only the areas I mentioned before that I'd like to correct for now. (Occasional airbox coughs, even out the lower rpm surge/slight stumble, maybe improve stock lean cond, I definitely want to practice getting my Air/Fuel ratio right)

After getting my head above water for a while, I managed to actually read the site & manual some. I see what you mean about moving in stages, I'll def do that. I also see I will need 1, maybe 2 wideband O2 sensors? Also looks like I'm going to need to log some ride time, at normal speed & conditions. Going to be hard with freakin' salt or snow on the road.

Thanks for your help.:(

no worries steve. we'll try and get you squared away. it just takes time and patience.

you dont NEED a wideband. you can tune with your current setup, but of course it wont be PERFECT, but will still be leaps and bounds above the stock tune. the patience comes with the logging. after that, is where MLV comes into play.

youll log a ride...say 15-20 mins. trying to hit as many areas of the fuel map as possible. the key to getting an accurate log is to reset your AFV to 100%, then limit the ECM to min/max AFV at 100. this IIRC is under the "Other Maps" area. youll also want to disable the closed and open loop 'Learn' functions on the ECMConfig tab. that way youll be driving with the loaded map and NOT having the ECM compensate for any variables. this is the only way to effectively get a good log.

when you get back home....stop logging and the file should be under the "LOGS" directory in ECMSPY. its generally named by time and date. its a good idea to set up some type of system for naming these so you know whats goin on later. i rename them like 112208 - low speed cruise log .... it helps to understand after youve got a few dozen in there to see the changes.

once you have a log (either of the whole map area or a problematic one, the process stays the same) youll load that into MLV. this is the software that calculates the changes in your maps based on the AFR you desire. this is another lesson, so when you get the log done, ill help you through that part. maybe i can take some time to do some screenshots as well.

but bear with me. im currently at work and im doing all this from memory.

you can also check this thread: http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5176

theres a lot of info there too.

Ive also wrote excel files to calculate revisions to your maps to fill in the unused rows and columns. the files can be downlooaded from the Xopti website.

which, is also, another lesson.

hang in there buddy.

hehe

Awesome, now all i need is some ride time. I'm sure it's simpler than it sounds, but right now I feel like a grade schooler stepping into college. [smirk]

When I do get some ride time in, I'll start another thread, seeing as we kinda hi-jacked this one.

No problem at all, the more information on any of this stuff that is thrown at me the better. Thanks everyone for your opinions.

I am in the process of getting this done on my XB9R. Working on getting all my logging done. Love all this help. I LOVE THIS SITE. You guys are the best.:p:D:D:D:)[up][up]

the logging and refinements will help with your mapping for sure.

Xopti does some things to all the other settings within the ECM that really help the bike a lot. i will only discuss those changes he has made public on his own. everything else is up to him. i dont wanna step on any toes here since im also here to help.

but a lot of the info can be found on the link i previously posted, or not, it can be deducted (if youre real familiar to FI) based on the discussions.

but feel free to ask. thats the best way to learn. no questions are too dumb.

good luck!

and be patient!!
