XR1200 - my next bike?

Love the XR1200’s ... wish I had one but they’re getting a little expensive and like someone already posted, if you’re gonna spend that much on a used bike, it’s hard not to get another Buell. I saw an XR in person for the first time at a dealership when I had just bought a new Ninja 636 in 2016. I was getting ready to ride the Ninja home and I spotted the XR in the outside lot. I didn’t know the full story on them or I may have been tempted to try to get it. Cool bike but I think now I’m holding out for the new FTR 1200 like a lot of us!

some better pics from yesterday. most fun H-D i've ever owned.

ya ricky it did. i added the decal package and striped the wheels by hand. it has a patriot fuel controller on it and the fueling is superb. smoothest H-D i've ever ridden. has a nice sound. not drag-pipe loud but throaty. you can ride it when you make it over here.

You tell him, Lunatic -- who knows maybe it is a big break though and he has dyno tests to prove it

Well most people think it looks righteous and kickass and two equal lengths of pipe is never a bad idea when performance is involved. This is one of the best pipes for the xr it's just really expensive but i got mine for super cheap off a guy on facebook. It flows way better than my torque hammer exhuast and since it has bigger diameter it probably moves heat out faster. I'll post the dyno difference when i get it done

It's made by zard out of Italy, they offer it in steel or titanium with either a street muffler (mine) or a race muffler which is much smaller thinner muffler

clearly neither you nor this Zard outfit knows anything about air-cooled engine heat management. read up on the dreadful 1979 XLH-1000 Hugger model and then you'll know why this "bundle of snakes" header contraption is a death-sentence.

Since they build race exhaust for a living I'm betting they do.
Couldn't find anything on it and this is not the 1979 xlh 1000 hugger. These pipes seem to work just fine on others peoples bikes for a long with no problems and my uly (aircooled engine incased in a frame and skid plate with an exhaust running down the side and a muffler directly under the engine) probably gets hotter, so you can stuff your negative speculations in a sack because i bet she will do just fine

Oooooh! A Ti one would be super cool, except for that (1) it arguably looks out of place on an XR and (2) probably costs as much as the XR.

I’m with Loonietix about the looks. I’m hoping its more “function over form” and I just grow to like the look. It’s not ugly, it’s just a lot of pipes. Granted, getting them all bendy and twisty in itself if truly a skill if not art. Hell, I thought the XB’s were butt ass ugly when I first saw one back in 2004-ish. Now I’m a fan boy.

I’d be curious to hear how the pipe works out in the real world as far as power and heat management. Those long pipes should help out the bottom end, but is that where the bike needs it? Tell me more.

You bastards are going to make me buy one. Lol!

So I went back and looked at the pipe again. Yeah, it’s growing in me with its looks, but the collector way up there does seem like a bad idea for heat management (i’m NOT an engineer) But, do the instructions recommend anything additional like always running synthetic or any sort of heat shielding for the engine?

I think it's 2000 bucks or more for the titanium

I think hd recommends synthetic for the xr any way but it doesnt hug the engine super close so there is an air gap in between it and the motor so i don't think the heat will be an issue. Mine didn't come with instructions or heat shields so i dont think so
