So I have a buddy who just picked up a dumped '01 RC51. Ive never heard of them before. Jap 1000cc liquid cooled v-twin. So would this be about the same performance as an 1125?

Edit: typo, its a RVT1000R not RTV

roughly... I think the production numbers are like 135HP w/ top speed of 170MPH, which is similar to the 1125R's 146 hp (at crank) and 171MPH top speed... Dont know too much about them, but I do like that they are Jap V-Twins. I like twins in general...

Ya, I also had a buddy that had one, I believe it was an '01.
Good luck keeping up if he is a good rider.
It "was" Honda's superbike.
Pretty BA thats for sure.

Those bikes are pretty much the sexiest form that a v-twin comes in. I would definitely consider trading my xb9 in on one(I was almost hoping that's what this thread was:( ). I'd pick the rc51 over an 1125 any day.

+1 to all of the above. I ride with about 4 guys in our group who have these and they are sick. That bike is what got me interested in v-twins. The other one is the Suzuki TL1000R.

Funny to think I never even knew these things existed [smirk] Its definitely a neat bike. Cant wait till its all together so I can see this beast in action!

Absolutely love both the TLR and RVT. Almost bought a TLR when I was stationed in Yuma but the guy wanted way too much $. Definitely going to choose one of those for a second bike if I dont get an 1125.

Now thats a bike I can look at!!! Doesnt match the looks of the CR but destroys the R in aesthetics,
(MY OPINION) please disregard if u get butt hurt, and u may say my bike looks like a piece of $hi+, I dont mind :p

Where can I get one?!?!?!?!

the RC51 is the only Jap bike I have ever wanted and I still do want one though I would never want it as my one and only bike because it sits very aggressive.

Was always interested in the RC51. Wanted it very bad when it first came out, but whooooaaa on the price at that time! Was out of my budget. It is a race bike for certain which is why I would opt for the Superhawk or TL1000S. Can't argue the sleekness of them though! Definitely eye candy!

also I must note that this bike helped two American racers get to MotoGP. Both Niky Hayden and Colin Edwards had a lot of success on this bike. This bike won 2 WSB titles and an AMA superbike title. It was dubbed the ducati killer for a while until the rules changed for superbikes.

Proof that if you win races, u will sell bikes.
They made the RC for what 4yrs?

And look at the 1125...

I feel that I would have that plastic all chopped up if I had one in my hands, and a different headlight mod so peeps could see the magnificant V-twins and of course a modern HID light;)

I've always loved the TL's too, I think the weight is somewhere around 430 dry though. It's a little bulky looking with the bodywork, so that's the main reason I'd never buy one for my 145lb self. If I was 6' or taller and 50lbs heavier I'd definitely consider one. The RC51 is super aggressive and I hear it makes an awful streetbike, but I'd be more than happy to have one for evening/weekend rides.

If I was going to get a suzuki twin, I'd probably pick the TLS over the TLR...

Great motor, shame the SV1000n/s is so..... soul-less.

I've always loved the RC51!

@ buelljek, it would be a total shame to butcher up that bike. And forget about showing off the engine, the radiators cover it up and if you removed the body work the radiators wouldn't function properly.

~Mike....

A guy in my building has a RC51, he tracks it as well and says its amazing. He said the only bike that gives him problems on the track is the 1125r. He said he easily walks away from 600's and 750s. Liter bikes could keep up but he still pulled them on corner exit. I saw his video's and he wasn't lying. I'd love to get a RC51 but they still fetch a good price compared to other bikes that are old.

Mike,

Thats what the the scooped scooped scoops are for ;)
sry, Jobe. Had to use that ref-

I see tons of potential to be done.....
