For those that have mufflers that require periodic repacking.......What do you use and why? My Drummer SS is in need of a repacking and Im having Issues finding a wrap that will do the job without having 2 seperate peices inside the can. All of the kits i have found .....Moose, FMF, Procircit, HMF, and so on do not provide enough mat to fully wrap the inner core with one solid peice. The loose style packing will not work with the SS due to the internal design and the lack of a internal cage suport........basicly once the packing is gone the cage sits on the bottom of the muffler. Any insite would be great.

Jumbo marshmellows :D:D:D

But seriously, when I used to have my kawi with muzzy I was repacking it with muffler brand specific packing, it was about $30. I would give kdfab a call and ask what they use.

Already emailed him and have looked into his "NEW" packing he is using, but the heavy duty stuff they offer only comes in the smaller sizes like the other companys. The only stuff I saw that would work was sold in bulk that you would have to cut to fit.

Just got a response from Kevin about his new packing and WOW is all i can say. $80+ shipping to him just for a repack. I emailed Bristol Core to see if there is anything they can do or offer that will help.

ya thats a little high. kdfab likes taking your money for ordinary products. seing as how they gut your stock muffler and then charge your 600 for it

The new core wrap he is using is stainless wool thats mated to a breathable stainless blanket/backing. Bristol Core dosent sell it in peices big enough for the drummer SS unless you buy it in bulk so unless I can find someone that will sell it Im either going to have to keep repacking this beast or find a diff alternitive.

I wonder if wrapping the core in DEI 2in header wrap will work and then put packing between it and the case for padding?

I don't think header wrap will absorb sound. But it might. The barker repack kits are like a small couch pillow full of packing the pillows with stainless rivets are 20 ea

RT......thing is....is that it would take 2 or more to pack the muffler. The inner core is almost as big as the outter case on the Drummer SS. There is only like 1in of space between the outer case and inner core so the pillow type packing most likly would not fit.

Holy crap no way would the pillow work.
If it was me I would go to walmart and buy a couple packs of steel wool and try it.

Don't use regular steel wool, it can catch fire inside the can, do a search for metal supply companies in your area, ask if they handle any Stainless Steel Woven fabric, you want a real fine weave, if they have any stock, they will most likely have some "drop" stuff, cut offs from other customers, and probly get it cheap, my local place is called Sabel Steel

Ive thought of finding a metal shop to see what they might have, but being away at work kinda make that a bit hard. The thought of wraping the core in header wrap has me thinking, because there isnt much packing to begin with. The loudness has never bothered me and I dont see it changing much at all by using the wrap and then backing it with some type of packing.

I also looked at Bristol Core's site again and they do sell a bulk roll of E glass for $10 but I fear that it will blow out just as fast.

Maybe combining the Wrap with the E glass?

I have been in contact with Bristol Core and they have what I need to get this bad boy packed. They sell their HD wool mat by the linar foot and they also have the E glass packing that will back it. So it seems foe about $30 I can repack my muffler. The wool mat will be about 2 in short but I think I can deal with that.

god that pisses me off, just trying to make some profit, asswipes, take your stock muffler, gut the shit out of it and then charge you $600----just fuckin hihgway robbery fucking theiving assbag clowns fuckin shits taking peoples money cocksmokes bunny bangers, times are tough enough dumassbags taking money from people and giving them an empty can

EFF THAT!!!! and that comes effing with it!! you cockgobblers, professional ASS-SPEEEEELUNKERS!!

I'm sure Kevin's repack job would surpass what I can do, and he buys his materials in bulk so I'm sure it cost quite a bit. I mentioned my wool mat being a bit short...... If I do it right and buy 2 linear feet of wool mat + the packing I will be right at $45-$50. So you throw in labor & shipping and what he charges is right on the money. I'm just too poor to pay $80-$110 for a professional repack right now. I can get pretty much the same materials and do it myself for half the cost.

Well at this stage I can say that Im less than pleased with Bristol Cores customer service. It seems that they have no intrest in helping with this project. They told me they sell the stainles steel core wrap by the foot & even gave me a price for it, but when I asked about how to order it I guess my question fell on def ears. On top of that they keep pushing me back towards Kevin of KDFAB to repack the can..........as if I cant do it myself. This is really starting to piss me off. Ive loved this muffler up to this piont, but if this the type of crap Im going to have to continue to go through for a simple inexpensive pack job......I will sell the damn thing and give Randy a call. For Kevin.....if you see this post....Maybe you should offer a kit to repack these things. I understand wanting to make a lil cash these days, but there are plenty of people out there that are capable of doing it themselves......especially when the can comes apart fairly easy. Now for thoses that buy the new version thats welded closed........I pray the packing last, because I would hate to see the cost when it includes rewelding the case closed. [mad][down]

For thoses that care......I have made Contact with BRISTOL CORE Via Phone and they will In fact ship the needed materials to pack a Dummer SS. They have been working On their website and will be adding a few options to make the process easier on everyone. For now if you have a custom order just give them a call.
$51 shipped for more than enough core wrap and glass mat to do a Drummer SS.

The only down side is the stainless wool mat will not have the 304 stainless mesh on the back.....they have it pre cut for their avalible kits but not in bulk. I was informed that the mesh only aids in keeping the wool mat in place while being wrapped with glass mat and in My case using stainless safty wire wrapped in a spiral pattern spaced 1-1.5 in apart would be more than suficiant.

This just made my day!!!!
