Going to look at an 03 XB9SL in a couple days. Its got 11,000 miles, race exhaust, uly comfort kit (right side scoop...right?). Its been dropped in the garage the guy said, and had to replace a foot peg. Tank, fender, fly screen and chin fairing have all been painted flat black. Clean and clear title. I looked at the kbb and nada values...puts it around 2700 in excellent condition. So, what should I pay for this bike?

I think KBB is about right. +/- a few hundred depending on the condition. For some reason, the 03's haven't been bringing a lot...

PS - Check to see if the belt system has been upgraded. I've read that the 03's had issues with the stock belt.

Good luck!

Renegade, We are both kind of asking the same question :). Mine inquiry is for a 2003 xb9s. Good luck!!

Walk in with 2000 cash and work your way up and down from there to where you're comfortable. Good luck.

Assuming its in good shape, I would hope the owner would tell anyone who offered 2k to fuck off!! That's a downright insult on a good working/running XB

assuming its I good shape, I could see it selling for about 3000.

Hahaha. Figure he could try and get away with a steal. Read it again and I misread the info. I thought he had to replace all that stuff not that it had already been replaced.

so in light of my reading error, I'd say a blue book sounds pretty fair. Maybe you can talk it down a little due to the prior damage but the race pipe is worth some cash so that may bump it up a bit.

2500 at best since the plastics have been painted, look over the side that was damaged...go from there. as for the belt, look for teeth wear, threads sticking out from the sides of the belt, cuts or gouges in it. if it looks good, then you're ok. my belt has just shy of 64k on it. look at the forks for signs of leakage, rust on wheel bearings, take the seat off and look over everything visible, have the bike turned on and check the cluster that all lights are working, check the turn signals, brake light at both hand lever and foot brake, look at tire wear indicators and see how much life is left on 'em, roll the bike several feet forward and backwards and listen for worn bearings in the idler pulley, check the surface of the idler pulley that the coating is intact all the way around, look at both cylinder base gaskets closely for any signs of leaking, same for rocker box covers and push rods upper and lowers seals, rocker box cover bolts also. look at oil line connections for signs of leaks. and being that it is an "SL" side stand bolt, you may want to replace it with the upgraded pin since this was a recall item on the '03 SL models. I did a dye-pen inspection on the side stand bolt and it was fine, then swapped out my suspension to an S a few years ago. good luck and let us know the outcome
