    intake seals

Hm, I don't think my flanges are bending. It seems to be squishing the gasket just fine but I'm afraid by going all the way to base of the intake port its deforming the gasket to the point where I'm creating an intake leak. Although I don't see how someone is snugging up the throttle body...

    intake seals

I know this is an older thread but.... I got my bike apart doing a bunch of maintenance and I decided to go with the Dennis Kirk intake seals. When tightening it down, do I get the flange all the way against the head like you would with stock?? When I did that it looks like it squished the...

    Need help!

In terms of it cutting off when you let out the clutch, that could be as simple as the kickstand wire being frayed or damaged. Still thinks the kickstand is down and kills the bike. You can either fix the wire or bypass it with the 'diode trick' in the fuse box

Buell XB9S Lightning 2003 Transmission issues

I'm in a similar predicament as you (in terms of a good top end but locked transmission). You basically have two options. 1. Tear the motor down to find out whats going on with the transmission. 2. Throw a different motor in it and then get rid of the "bad" motor Option 1 is going to be...

03 Buell KB9S Speedometer Bouncing Erratic

You may check the speed sensor wire where it connects at the ECM. I believe its the pink wire (for the tach) but you may check the manual. My 03 XB9SL would have the tach randomly jump between 3-4K but the bike never ran any diff. Found out it would only happen when I shifted my weight which...

    Looking to buy EXHAUST

I have a Jardine exhaust thats been sitting in a box for a couple years. Decent condition but I replaced it with a Spec Ops exhaust. I'd sell it for $60 +shipping. Heres a video of the sound when it was on the bike https://youtu.be/WookNpasE9s

    Cross country with a Lightning?

I had no issues, other than a sore butt, riding my 2003 XB9SL from Dallas, TX to Los Angeles, CA in 1 1/2 days. Stayed for 2 days and then made the same trip back. Did the first 1,000 miles to Phoenix, left at about 4am and arrived around 11pm. The 2nd day I started at 7am and arrived by 4pm...

    How screwed am I???

Those aren't from the studs or flange, its from the gasket in the exhaust port. I'm with you on the surface rust, which is why I bought new nuts The frame is off the engine at the moment

    How screwed am I???

Micron headers are a 4 piece system. Each pipe comes apart in the middle'ish but the flanges at the exhaust port don't (at least mine) have retaining rings. I appreciate the replies. I guess I'll torque it down and run it as is. I'm less concerned with getting the exhaust off at a later date...

    How screwed am I???

I know that its not supposed to be flush, but I worry at the distance it currently is overall. My other XB's flange is closer to the head than this one. I don't know if thats an issue with the way the Micron pipe is made (its header is longer) or if its messed up. My worry is that IF its...

    How screwed am I???

So here it is just sitting in the port. I can't fully see the top part of the flange but from what I can see, its bent as much as the lower one (most visible in the pic) Here it is tightened up. I worry about the gap between the flange and the head. On my other XB with stock headers, the...

    How screwed am I???

So I've been redoing the top end gaskets on my XB9SL as I'm taking a long trip here shortly and wanted to correct a leak I had. I'm using the Cometic Top End Gasket set and everything buttoned up fine until tonight when I went to put on the headers. I have the full Micron exhaust and when I...

    Deadbeat Bueller

Definitely sucks but the first lesson to learn is never ship anything out to a random person on the internet without confirming payment :( Hard lessen to learn, maybe contact the local authorities in TX *edit* May not be good form to stoop to this level, but ordering $275 worth of pizza to...

    Stuck in 4th/5th

Appreciate the response. Is there anyway to confirm this without splitting the cases? E.g. a cover I can removed to visually inspect portions? I've never torn apart the right side of the case.

Had to push bike into the garage...HELP!

Yes, the black plastic plug right near the kickstand is the "switch" your looking for. You can either cut the wiring and splice it together, or create a jumper that does the same, using the existing plug

    Stuck in 4th/5th

Hey all, Ran into another issue with my other XB9S. I was riding on the highway one day and out of the blue the RPMs spiked and I wasn't getting any power to the rear wheel. At first I thought my belt had snapped so I quickly got over and tried shifting down but couldn't. It would go...

Help dealer dropped my baby after new tires!

Ya, either they fix the bike to how it was and you pay for the tire service or they comp you the tires (or damage equivelant) and you take it as is. Side note, in the future: 1. Get the quote in writing ahead of time for work that is flat labor (eg stuff where troubleshooting doesn't have...
