    Uly adventures

It was fun. These leg stretch photos make the terrain seem mild, but there were some serious sections on the trip. The Uly kept up with the big GSes - we did about 120km/h on better sections, but it has serious limitations on heavy rocky stuff and loose gravel. Turning radius, foot peg and...

    Uly adventures

Went riding with guys and ladies from local TV show, Look what you're missing . They travel familiar and not so familiar roads, while documenting it. I was the only non-BMW. Only suffered broken header studs. Few shortcomings in terms of handling on certain surfaces, but overall I survived the...

    Miserable Ully

Hey guys, Johanv is a local South African rider like me. Actually stays a few kms from me. Finding sea foam or US parts are always tricky. But I'm sure he'll get it sorted.

Switch back to 180/55 rear tire

Bagger - I am by no means an off-road expert, but I aim to do a lot more this coming year! njloco - never had to, but stand up on the pegs and gun it! :) TKC80 is very soft. I ride the Pirelli MT60R in front - bit more mileage. Since I have changed my XT suspension for an X, my confidence...

Switch back to 180/55 rear tire

No real difference, though the handling of the dual sport types are slightly different to road ones. The Karoo 3 handled like a road tyre. The Heidenau gives great mileage. Hence the choice. I ride the K60 170/60 B 17. Our tyre choice is limited over here, unless you ride a KTM or BMW... The...

Switch back to 180/55 rear tire

I'm running on the opposite end of the scale. I have a 170 on the back (mainly due to selection of dual sport tyres over here). No problems. Can't see that a 190 can make that much difference.

    Uly upgrades

Replaced my busted header with one from a Firebolt. It actually fitted! And using a borrowed Buell race exhaust in the meantime till I get my one fixed. Barkbusters are fitted. Will snap some pics tomorrow.

    Uly upgrades

Fitted front LED blinkers. Couldn't get LED relay to work. Upon studying the wiring diagram, I realised the positive and negative terminals are swapped around on Buell. Sorted now. Bark Busters arriving tomorrow.

    Uly upgrades

Heidenau Scout rear and Pirelli MT60R up front. Managed to track down a set of bark busters in South Africa - which is a miracle in itself!

    Uly upgrades

Mine is an 08XT on which I have swapped out my suspension for that of an X. Rest, apart from exhaust, still pretty much stock. Thanx guys!

    Uly upgrades

Hi guys, been fairly quiet. For the most part because of work, but also since Uly has been riding like clockwork. I was fortunate to attend an off-road training course, which my wife got for my birthday. The guys from Country Trax train the BMW riders as well as the BMW trainers. Learned a...

How to: Rotate your engine : With Pics!

Did it over the weekend and it was easy as pie! :) Thanx to the great step by step pics! Installing the engine was a mission, but fully because of silly mistakes on my part! Like forgetting to fit front breather tube after I had torqued v-bar and isolator in place and once again after...

    Help! Cam Bushings = $800?!?!

Sameul, welcome! I am form Cape Town area. There is a local guy who has a business called Octane. He is taking over from HD supplying Buell parts in SA. Pop me a message and I will send you his number. Nice, genuine stand-up guy. Used to be a Harley tech, specialising on Buells. Search for...

    Rocker cover gaskets

Thanx Chickn! Had shocks serviced last weekend. Getting ready for an adventure riding weekend on the first weekend of September. Might be a few Ulys in between the BMWs and KTMs. Just want to get everything ready before then.

    Rocker cover gaskets

Finally got my gaskets today! It spent more time at customs than the actual trip to South Africa from the States! If my flu has subsided enough by the weekend I am doing my first engine rotation and fitting the new gaskets along with some fresh plugs while I am at it. Any pointers to look out...

    Clutch basket inspection

Clutch problem is sorted and the bike is coming back this week after the whole transport issue with new parts fitted. Met a really nice, knowledgable guy who is a qualified HD tech, but also a qualified engineer and IT dude. Strange mix, but it works! He pinpointed the fault to the thrust...

    Snap, crackle, pop

Indeed! Well, now I need some pics of the mounting straps for the tank bag. Seems they got lost somewhere. So if someone would be kind enough to share, I would be really grateful!

    Snap, crackle, pop

Double whammy today! Got second hand, but virtually brand new luggage set, including frames, for a few bucks more than the cost of importing a left hand pannier alone! Rest of the parts on the way. Plus, my neighbour - who wrote off his Buell two years ago - gave me these unused bags for...

    New luggage fitted :-)

Side panniers look good! Top box bit huge for my liking (I hate top boxes, but they come in useful!). Nice!
