Hi,
This is my first time posting here but I have used this site numerous times to help figure out issues I have had in the past. I went to start my bike the other day and when it turned over and started running, I heard a loud knocking sound from one of the cylinders. I am not sure if its the left or right but it sounds like something is either loose or there is no fluid. I have checked all my fluids and everything seems fine, all fluids were changed recently as well. Any help, ideas or tips would be appreciated. I am getting ready to sell and don't want to have any issues when it comes time.

would it be possible to get a video of this? How long did you let it run?
If it were me i'd drain the oil first, check for metal shavings.

I only let it run long enough till I could turn it off. I drained the fuilds and checked the oil plug and the primary drain plug and there were no shavings. I had the primary chain replaced last year and was thinking it could be something to do with that (has not been ridden at all this year) but the noise is coming from the top cyliders and not the primary case. I will refill with fluids and try to get a video uploaded.

Is it possible that the engine just needed to cirulate the oil after sitting for so long? It didnt sound as bad this time around

it is possible, but it all depends on how loud it was etc. . . just upload the video to youtube and link it here

Could it be the oil gear not putting enough oil in? wasnt there a problem with those in earlier years? or the gear in general?

Im bringin it to the shop on saturday. It sounds like the noise is actually coming from the primary case. I had the primary chain replaced a year ago and the bike has not been ridden much since then so i am wondering if the chain wasnt put on correctly or its loose...lost at this point

what shop are you going to around here? i'd love to know of a reliable shop in the area if i ever run into an issue i can not fix

I bring it to Plympton Cycles on Rt 106. There is also another shop in Brockton that said they work on Buells but I have used Plympton before and they do good work.

That sounds is the rocker box with no oil. If you can drain some oil out of the swing arm and pour it into the rocker boxes through the vent holes and should help till oil circulates. It takes about a minute or so for oil to work its way up there after it has been sitting for a long time.

Appreciate the help and info...waiting to hear back from the shop. Once the engine is fixed the bike is going on the market and I am making the move to a cruiser.
