First post please be gentle.
This morning I went to start the beast, it cranked spluttered a few times then just kept cranking.
Fired up last night straight away.
Things I have tried or tested.
Battery is fine, on charge all day plus tried jumper leads nothing.
Pulled a plug and I have spark.
Can hear fuel pump working.
At risk of losing my eyebrows could see fuel going in through the throttle body.
Clutch in stand up!
Also had battery off for a few hours to charge it and hoping it might reset any computer issues.
I can't afford to lose any more hair!
Any Ideas Peeps?????

is it in neutral? Don't think these bikes have sensors for that, mine doesn't, and side stand down? obviously... just checking off a checklist. bad fuel?

Hmmm...has to be fuel or ignition related, If you have fuel and spark like you've said...my thought is out of time, crank sensor? I'd have to read the manual though, I've yet to mess with my 03's timing

John or one of the other guys will prob chime in with a better diagnostics plan. Meanwhile, do what I do...

Google

I did notice a sensor in the rear exhaust that was loose, makes me wonder if another sensor has rattled loose. Where should I be looking?

Forgot to mention it was backed into on the right hand side and it fell on the left breaking gear lever and peg, picked up and started straight away. Have ridden it since but thought i'd mention it.

Basics first change the spark plugs. Often when a crank sensor fails it's OK cold but as it warms up the problems start.

spark + compression+fuel=combustion. one is missing. do the simplest thing first and pick up a set of NGK DCPR9EIX plugs. they are the iridium style and a great choice for all XB's. commend you for fine trouble-shooting prior to your post but keep in mind that a weak plug can still display spark to atmosphere that is quickly smothered by compression. be gentle with the plug wires during removal and install but be sure they are installed firmly onto each plug tower.

Ok I feel like a bit of a numpty. While waiting for the wife as I have no transport I pulled the plugs and cleaned them.
It didn't even crank once and fired into life. Off to get new plugs and leads anyway then a long ride to blow the cobwebs out of it.
Thanks for all your help guys!

Plugs. I know it sounds odd but they foul easy on this engine. Something similar happened with my bike ran good, backfired, stalled. Wouldn't fire again. I did a lot of stuff and finally changed plugs and it ran fine.
