Step One: Remove the electrics from the orig. light.

Step Two: Remove Lens and reflector housing from bike.

Step Three: New Light. Pay attention to the lettering on the new lens, make sure it's right side up. Also, the LED tail light does NOT have a license plate light.

Step Four: Electrics. Remove the pins from the let light's connector or just cut it if you're lazy,

Step Five: Add MALE quick disconnects to the LED side of the wiring.

Step Six: Plug in the wires to their matching colors on the bikes orig. harness.

that looks awesome! and at a great price too (i ordered one yesterday)[up]. what size connectors did you use?

Very Nice! Is it as bright as is seems to be, looks a lot brighter than stock. Curious how much was it?

I used the blue ones... well yellow is BIG, Red is small, blue is middle, i think they will fit 14ga wire... I just crimped the connector right on the pins i took out of the 2010 connector.

the light was $57

That tail looks Awesome!! Wonder how/if you could integrate turn signals into it..

Nice write up

sweet look...
This might be a dumb question, i am curious about the connectors.
Can i get those at any electronic store?
And what do you call those things?
Can i re-use the ones aleady on my bike?

another question, did u order the light from an HD dealer?

i am done with the questions [smirk]
thanks

probably not, and yes

:)

well, as dave_xb12r pointed out to me, there are two versions of this LED light, one for the lightnings, and one for the firebolts.

The firebolt model has a license plate light built in to it, so if you put it on a lightning and plan on doing the eliminator on it, get the '10 bolt LED light...

Anyone got part number for the bolt one please? already chopped the arse end off mine. could you email me part number to [email protected]
cheers

yeah, the LED lights are the same between the XBs. the license plate light is what you need for a lightning with fender eliminator or a bolt.

Just got my tail light & license plate light to replace the broken one on my 09 XB12R. Anyone know what size screws are used to attach the two? None were sent with the boxes.

If not, I'll just play with the different sizes at the hardware store.

I still have to install the "plate light" I used modeling clay to make a reflector because it comes from the factory black inside. I'll be attaching it to the brake light circuit for added brakes.

Just ordered one. Just in case I get too lazy to finish the new one I'm attempting.
$45.60

There was a similar post on bwb regarding integrating the turn signals.

It's a "sandwiched board" or something like that and won't be easy to do. I'm sure someone will figure it out, but it will probably be easier/cheaper to just get one like that from the start.
