I like the idea of 200hp. I really dont care for the looks of the Jap bikes and u see them everywhere. The BMW has grown on me. I didnt like the two different shaped headlights in the front. But I didnt like the pods on the 1125 at first either and now I think the bike looks stupid without them. To each their own though.

I hate to tell u guys this but the 1190RS is going to be stupid expensive.

I love the idea of 200hp in a bike, and it would be a ton of fun if I was just riding around but my favorite riding is on super tight back roads, and I would just be afraid to take a bike like that on roads like that. You would never need to leave 1st gear and my wheel would come off the ground every single time I came out of a corner if I was really pushing it. I know there's better riders than I am and I'm sure they have the skills to handle it but I like being able to focus on the turn and my lean, and not my front tire.

I know bikes are getting more adjustable now. A perfect bike would would be 200hp, adjustable down to 130-140 to cover pretty much all kinds of riding.

Up the ZX-10 will have three different power settings adjustable all the way down to about 100hp. I like some of the features too. 9 different settings, power and abs control. Pretty cool what they can pack into a bike and still make it weight a little over 400lbs dry.

I am feeling it. I have a 08 zx10 and I cant imagine a 200hp bike. My 08 has insane power, handling, and is smooth as a baby's butt. I guess they always find a way to improve. But I still ride my XB way more

It's over 400lbs dry? I thought 1000cc bikes were getting down to 370 or something now. I guess after yamaha just released that last boat for an R1 some other manufactures have a little weigh cushion to play with. Adjustment is nice but I don't want them to make it to complicated. I'm having a hard enough time getting a race map loaded, I can't imagine having 9 different settings to screw with. I know the bmw has settings but if I remember right they only went down to 150hp or so. Going down to 100hp sounds like a great idea.

It would be really nice if manufactures started loading settings for freer flowing air filters and exhausts. You could put in a k&n and a new pipe and just hit a button to readjust.

to be honest 200HP scares the $H!T out of me

any liter bike back two or three generations is an insanely powerful motorcycle

the ability to de-tune the new kawi is a moderate up for me, I don't NEED any more power than my XB9 but of course I want it.

I probably SHOULDN'T even attempt to use more power than a 600cc I4 on the street

but my conundrum is I don't want to have to wring its neck just to kick around town. low and midrange power are what is most important in an engine for my riding style. so liter bike or bigger is what will fit me best, so what if some settings cut down the top end of the stratospheric RPM range. I wont be banging into the rev limiter any time soon anyway.

I rode my friends 636 and at 10k the bike jumped to life, I couldn't keep from sliding back. the problem was getting around at a decent click was at 6k cruising RPM and 8k to get off a light with decent pep.
drove me nuts

a liter bike will be better, not great but better. so Ill be keeping my XB for my around town adventures. most of my friends don't like commuting on the liter bikes because they get so hot in stop and go traffic anyway.

It's over 400lbs dry? I thought 1000cc bikes were getting down to 370 or something now.

I think the CBR1000RR was the lightest in its class at 385 dry 439 wet (specs from Honda) but don't quote me on who is the lightest
403 dry and 455 wet for the BMW
kawi claims 436.6 wet on the new ZX-10

I hate to tell u guys this but the 1190RS is going to be stupid expensive.
I think it will be along the lines of the top Ducati (1198SP) and KTM (RC8R)
about a $20,000 price tag

hey i'm starting to become pessimistic on the price ofv the buell 1190rr he's selling it for 45k i doubt the 1190 rs is going to have all the upgrades the rr will but i still imagine it's going to be expensive as sin.

200hp would terrify me. I'm even a little hesitant about some of the 10 year old liter bikes that only had 150hp. I think the fastest I'd really want is a gsxr750. That is the issue though about low end. If the power was more linear I'd be perfectly happy with a 600, but I want a better low end. If I could get a bike with a 1000cc low end and a 600cc top end I'd perfectly happy. The only inline 4 I've really ridden was my Triumph Speed Four. Someday I need to ride some japanese 600s because people always talk about power kicking in at 6k rpm and higher, but the powerband on that triumph was almost identical to my xb9. I wouldn't have thought so, but my friend just bought one this summer and I've gotten to ride it a couple times back to back with my xb and there's definitely no lack in bottom end. Keeping in mind that the rpms aren't parallel. You do have to rev the S4 to 4k for it to feel like the xb does at 2.5-3k, but it's a short stroke so it gets there faster, and doesn't actually feel like you're riding at a higher rpm. A bike like that was still great for getting around town at normal rpms on an i4 600. Even if you only go half way to the redline you still feel the front wheel getting light on that bike, which is definitely something I have to do intentionally on the xb. I remember why I used to get in so much trouble on that bike.

i'll probably settling for a rc8 as weak as it is.

local shop takes their RC8R out to bike nights and track days sometimes

I can tell you its not weak

power wheelies in third gear at 90mph no clutch no throttle cut and stab just twist
its a bad ass bike
I want one, but cant afford one
and IMO its sexy

as for top speed, I could care less

not that I don't want to see what 190mph feels like, I just don't want to know what the cops would do to me.....

if I could legally rip it up like a lunatic doing top speed runs for miles and miles I would do it.
I would love to find out how fast I could get from one city to another

track days are one thing but there are times when I just want to pin the throttle and see when I chicken out.
I don't know any road or racetrack that I can do that on
Bonneville doesn't count, its salt, and the autobahn doesn't count for me kuz I cant go play there :(

so crossing triple digits for me is out of the question, for me anyway
so its all about how it feels getting to the speed limit, how it feels cruising at it, how easy it is to ride in every day situations.

if I can fine tune it to ride a 4,000 mile vacation and tune it for riding my favorite roads as well as for the daily grind too then its the bike for me.

If I could get a bike with a 1000cc low end and a 600cc top end I'd perfectly happy.

that would be a nice V twin... but then I get stuck with price tags that are too big for me to even look at without flinching

I used to ride an F4i regularly and it was a nice bike but it was always screaming
no matter what I was doing part of my brain ways always telling me
"SHIFT.... SHIFT.... OH FOR GODS SAKE SHIFT ALREADY"
me no likey

but my friends 2010 ZX-6R was quiet about it but damn did that thing Buzz going down the freeway even at 5 under the speed limit in 6th gear

but then the ZX-14 I rode was freaking amazing!
just not sure I trust myself with that much engine or if I want that much bike, weight and size wise. but it is my idea of a perfect sport touring mount

yeah rc8's are cool. when i went on vacation in cali the first thing i did was test ride one. they are fast but compared to an 1000 they're still lacking.
i'd probably steer clear of the rc8r tho, i know from experience the harder you push an engine, component wise, the shorter it lasts. i'm definitely not a speed guy, but i wanna be able to roll on wheelies above second gear.

zx-14's? ha they're about as useful as tits on a nun

I think a 14 is very useful

long enough it doesn't got jostled easily on the highway, heavy enough it soaks up the bumps well and still remains stable
big enough you can load it up with 2 weeks worth of luggage and a passenger then ride for a day in comfort. even enough room on it for an auxiliary fuel tank to extend your range.
enough grunt to still rocket you and all your stuff away from crazy drivers and stoplights on demand

and when you find a fun road on the way at least you aren't on a hardly bagger so you can still lean it over a bit.

and the RC8R has enough engine upgrades to make it one of the most reliable bikes my dealer has seen in quite a while, even with the track torture.

it's my opinion, but zx14 is useless as it is outdated, as is the busa, there are concourse 14's for touring with the same lean angle and engine, s1000rr's are making more hp, and with the zx10 about to make more.

in one of my races i owned a guy with a zx14 with an xb9! they have no lean angle, and they're heavy as hell.
stable yeah but they're for straight lines. oh and for people with 15 inch extended swing arms 300 back tires and blue and white airbrushing. what a joke.

there are concourse 14's for touring with the same lean angle and engine

de-tuned shaft drive ugly as sin too upright and less lean angle because of the body panels

stable yeah but they're for straight lines.
that is the quickest route between two points

most highways I ride are primarily straight anyway

if Honda reincarnated the blackbird I would be all for it but I will not buy an FJR connie st1300 or the like until I am much older
if it comes stock with hard bags its not for me at this point.

s1000rr's are making more hp, and with the zx10 about to make more.
its not about HP, its about touring

apparently you're missing my point that zx 14 is soon to go. kawasaki is introducing bikes that take sales from the 14; 14 concourse and zx10 and now the 1000. people are realizing that they're not worth it. and if it's for straight lines what should lean angles do with it? even if we're talking about a couple mm in differance between bikes either way they are impractical for knee dragging.
touring wise they are hard on your wrists and have poor wind protection. i would take a maintainance free shaft drive over a chain any day.

i'm gonna agree to disagree we have very differant interests.
4193_20100514235559_L.jpg

seeing as my bikes not wrecked i'd rather be out doing this instead of forum fighting.

i'm gonna say i'm not even interested in touring anymore so i can care less about it since
i rode from portland to orange ca and back up to ak in a week and a half earning my iron butt twice. touring is best done in a plane.

I would take having to lube a chain over shaft jack any day

and I sport tour on my buell so a 14 would be more wind protection and less lean angle

you are right for a sports bike they are not worth it

but if you buy it for a purpose that is not mountain roads or maximum performance it is a fine bike.

for a sport touring bike they are great
the connie and FJR are way more tour than I want at this point, I would just feel way too old

but after a 1,000 mile weekend on the lightning a more relaxed bike would be nice to add to the stable

by no means would I replace my lightning with the zx-14
its just got a different use, just as a dirt bike would do other things better too
