There’s no question that our purpose-built stock Boss 302 had a handling and braking advantage over the similarly-hp-rated Camaro SS. To be fair, the Camaro SS was also bone stock, and might have had no chance!

wasnt the stang also stock or did i miss something they are both simalary hp matched you can clearly see th camaro kick the mustangs ass in the hole shot but the mustang caught up and out performed the rest of the way i couldnt find a comparison of the new stang vrs the new camaro but cant wait to see one the rivalry is great. It pushes all companies to higher levels.

purpose built for a road course is what i get from their statement.wich it was either prepped by them or ford if it was ford then that leads me to beleave ford considers this a sports car and now has many other makes to compete with.or it was prepped aftermarket and the camaro wasnt.imo the muscle car category is dead with ford and gm claiming handeling/road course performance and neither the stang or camaro perform overall at the top of the list.im not saying that they are not nice cars but the claim of muscle car 550 hp v8 running a 12.4 compared to a 6 cyl running a 12.6 dosnt hold water and since the imports are producing hp numbers that fall into the muscle car group they are all open for comparison.

edit:imo ford needs to step up an produce a top notch sports car in the mustang.anytime ford has wanted to compete it has stepped up and dominated in classes that were ruled by other makes then it seems they get bored and step down.they need to stop just dumpping hp into the mustang and work on suspension.what is really going to be sad is when the 2013 comes out more hp and torque and it still runs in the 12s and no better on a road course.

well I guess the muscle car comparison is just the nestalgic feelof the 60's and 70's wich .Is v8 rumble sound and power theres just a fun factor to it. Has to be rear wheel drive. It has to look like a muscle car. This is what i think of when i hear muscle car at least .when i see a supra sure its a awsome car but its just not the same its a tunner cars or sports car yes but its just missing the cool factor the muscle cars imo have.It may all be based on my opinion of whats a muscle car and my love for domestic products even if there not 100% american made there american companies and the profits stay here and that means somthing to me.What do you think of when you think of a muscle car? sure i guess its all worthless catigories in the end but I just think there something cool about them other sport cars are missing even if they can beat up on a muscle car.Kinda like a gxsr vrs a buell.

im glad that last link isnt the top modles because that makes the imports look even stronger.[sad]
it would be nice to see the 2013 stang come out and run mid 11s and do better than average on a road course.i really cant see why ford cant make a world class car out of the mustang its long over due.imo

Thats exactly what a Boss 302 was/is built for BY FORD. The race track...hence the Laguna Seca Model. This as also why the Mustang/Camaro comparisons/competitions are there. The 302 and the Camaro were rivals in the Trans Am Series in the 70's.

Read this article if you want to get educated on the 302.

I love muscle cars. With the '70 Falcon being on my top dream cars. The new ones, I think, are a failed attempt to bring that back. But all the same, I imagine the new stang would be incredibly fun to slide around a track :D

no but its a fair compairison there all kinda on a level playing feild compairing cars in the same class. i dont see them compairing any imports to thoose 3 cars do you think motortrend is missing something or maybe just there aimed at a different consumer?I just think they fall into different catigories and are aimed at a different age and market.

i think thay are sterotyping.imo if you build a performance car and you brag/advirtise hp,torque, handleing and track times you need to be able to compete with all others.comparing a mustang with a porsche both run in the 12s and claim road course cars same as the vette and viper and many others.since ford claims a purpose built road course car it needs to step up because its not even in the top 10.if your going to claim muscle and huge hp and torque numbers you better be faster than .40 than a 6 cylinder.or just claim im a mustang/camaro and dont really fit in either one.muscle car ment over 300 hp and now there are tons that can make that claim.so step up and produce an all around performance car.chevy has one dodge has one still waiting on ford.hopefully 2013 will be it.

edit:this argument could go on forever.ford could design the mustang to take on all comers if it wanted to.they just dont have the want right now.imo

if the stang can be compared to the camaro with it i/s then it can be compared to vette and all euro and asian inports.the camaro is bigger and weighs more and has i/s if comparing the stang and camaro is fair then comparing it with any vechicle with over 300 hp is fair.it just dosnt perform overall it slightly faster in the 1/4 than import 6 cylinders and slower than the bigger camaro and slower vette.imo and known specs

If you don't like the Mustang that is perfectly fine, everyone has their preferences, but stop trying to compare it to such ridiculous "competitors".
A person shopping for a Mustang, Camaro, or Charger is not at all interested in a mid engine European/Asian sports car (not that I have a problem with any of those).
Your prejudice against the Mustang is blatantly obvious.

The only imports that could ever be considered alongside a Mustang to someone looking for that kind of car are maybe the Hyundai Genisis coupe, and maybe a 2dr BMW, although that's stretching it pretty far.

The Mustang is not a world class sports car and it was never meant to be. It's a "muscle car", that means its a reasonably fast, reasonably affordable, fun car that almost anyone can own. Comparing it to a Lotus, Porsche or the like is just plain foolish. A Boxter makes a pretty lousy car to pick up kids from school in you know, but it wasn't designed for that was it?

Want a good comparison, you drive a Lotus every day for a full year and I'll drive a Mustang. That means running errands, commuting to work, driving the kids around, fighting traffic and hitting potholes; rain, shine or snow. I bet you good money by the end of the year I'll be the one still loving my car and you'll know all to well that you've made a poor choice for a car outside of the racetrack.

right but a porshe viper and vette all 2 seaters. so step up and produce an all around performance car.chevy has one dodge has one still waiting on ford.hopefully 2013 will be it.
what about the ford gt i know it has a heavy price tag but isnt that fords 2seat perfomance car?
gt vrs vette vrs viper
i dont know, im sure not because its a mid engine but they steped up and swung anyway

yea awesome car but production was low and big tag if price is not a option that opens many more cars and put mustang lower on the list and put a docati in there there are four seaters that perform better if it comes down to well this has 2 seats and this has four you might as well say the camaro is bigger and heavier so it a different class.imo

never said that

that is just plain wrong

dosnt mention snow,kids or groceries[confused]

what i dont get is no one has a problem with comparing the 850 hp 12 sec 4 seater super snake with the vette but the not the 550 hp gt500.[confused]if the super snake is running high 11s-12 flat the 2013 gt500 seems like its still going to be a 12 sec car.it seems like ford still hasnt managed to control its hp and torque or it realizes that its customers dont care about performance just numbers.oh well my stang has 650 hp.really what does run in the quater.12s[sad]

Suburu Mitsubishi Acura there all great cars but what rear wheel car ? Ford produces a car called a taurus it's all wheel drive aspirated and while it may fall short of the sunny and Mitsubishi ! It is the only awd car witch you should be capareing it to that fords produces. The mustange is just not aimed at the same consumer as thoughs cars. Now I most of the time agree with anrkism I just don't see your point on this one . Now the supra or 350z they are more like a mustang and would give it one he'll of a run for it's money.

i guess my point is it dosnt perform to the hype in a 1/4 mile when compared to top of the line 4 wheel, front wheel or rear wheel 2 or 4 door domestic or import 6 or 8 cyl or on a road course and imo it could be at the top of the heap if ford stopped just dumping more hp and torque into it and spent some r and d on suspension.
