On an older posting I read...

"The air box delete is only beneficial if you also have an open inner air box. This mod will create a "Ram Air" effect, in which will force cool air into your engine."

By open inner air box would that mean the tube running up from the side scoop? I am a little confused. Wouldn't doing the delete remove the cover of the airbox allowing all the air from inside the tank cover to enter the intake? Does it really matter if you remove the air box or put holes in it? I did the breather reroute tonight and I was trying to figure out the benefit of the delete.

The airbox delete allows a greater volume of air to be able to be taken in under the outer airbox, but without coupling it with an exhuast mod too, not a whole lot to gain by itself with a stock pipe. It's about "deleting" the inner airbox altogether; putting holes in it isn't quite the same.

'05-earlier XB's had the hole through the frame. Here's a pic of airbox delete on one.

So basically in addition to sucking air through the hole in the frame, it also sucks it from around the edges of the outer air box?

Do I just toss the servo and cable that was on the top of the old inner box?

bike is designed to run on what they call still air...it draws what it needs with no air turbulence

Yep, wherever it can get air.

What pipe have you got on the bike?

Like he said, it's kinda pointless without an after-market pipe. That way, it will WANT more air....where the option of the airbox delete really comes into play.

I don't want to start an exhaust debate but I am at the tipping point between a Drummer and a Special Ops, I understand the Special Ops uses the servo while the Drummer does not. Does that mean my best option is an airbox delete if I go with the Drummer and just toss the servo, and a modified airbox with the Special Ops to keep the servo intact and operating?
