I added extra lights to my Buell over a year ago and I keep changing out the switch to power the lights trying to find something that works well and looks decent. I had them simply hardwired into the running lights but that drew too much power for the battery.

What do you use for aux switches?
Has anybody tried something like these: http://www.pashnit.com/product/pmr/bar_switches.html

Ehm .... if wiring them into the running lights pulled too much from the battery, putting a switch on them isn't gonna change that man ... lol

But as far as switches go, My XB came with a crappy underglow kit on it when I dug it out of the shed I got it from ... The switch came from autozone, and was located under the tail in a small gap ... that looked like it worked just fine back when the underglow actually functioned and probably costed about ......... $5 ? ...

When they're wired into the lights without a switch, they're on as soon as you turn the key. Since the Uly takes 220 cca just to turn over, having the extra lights was causing my dash to reset every other time I started the bike. Since I rerouted to a switch, I don't have that problem.

The switch I'm using now is a $5 jobber from Autozone, ha! But it's just hanging free over the dash. The switches I've found there aren't weather resistant, all meant to be inside a cage, so I'm looking for something that's fixed in place, looks like it belongs there, and won't cry if it gets wet.

I have a couple bags of 5 red, 5 yellow, 5 blue, and 5 green switches with LED lights in them which I am integrating into my dash. my idea is to get rid of some of the hand controls and I will have plenty left over for accent lighting or whatever I need them for. (yes they are water proof)

i have 10w LED spotlights on that i wired from my aux plug. switches on with ignition and can handle the amps easy as that socket was wired rather thick. Most people i know go this route on both BMW and KTM.

Wolfo68, what switches are you using and where did you get them?

I found a bunch of switches someone threw together on ebay. They aren't necessarily weather friendly yet, but they are color coded with LEDs. My project is unfortunately on hold while a light gets shipped and I prep a new set of jugs. I managed to prep my old ones without looking at their condition. I apparently had a ring slip when the head gasket blew and put a nice gouge down the rear.

Its a mystery to me why you need to complicate this to relays and switches when 1 straight wire can do the job. no ugly swithes, relays that can break, lugs that can come loose or perish, long cable runs and spoiling your handlebars with an aftermarket switch that is seldom water and dust proof. Just use LED lights. 2 lights at 20W total aint gonna be a factor. it draws about 1,7A... even telephone wire can handle that.

I have lights wired up on my Uly and have no power issues. You can wire them with a relay and make it so they only come on w high beam.
